Exactly. They took a teaser and saw a victim.

Whether in a mental institution or prison, whether behavior is result of mental illness or sociopath, all 3 and the Colorado shooter should be held accountable--as should all who commit horrific crimes.

Sure. But my point is that conservatives are angling this as a hate crime against a South Asian man by two black girls but they refused to consider the Atlanta shootings a hate crime.

Maybe these teen girls were having a bad day or bad year because of the pandemic.

PP here. We don't know if either/both are hate crimes or nor, but I'll agree that both situations require significant consequences. Personally, I think it's possible that neither situation is a "hate crime."

They're juveniles and their intent was to steal a car, not kill a man. It's vehicular manslaughter and they are already cooperating for a lighter sentence. They should be out before 30.

It was felony murder.

There's no way they're pleading guilty to felony murder. Any decent lawyer will get it down.

with it all on video tape? hopefully the prosecutor will have more of a spine. they need to go away for the max, whatever that is for juveniles.

Neither is getting the max. They are young teenagers who are capable of remediation if they take it seriously.

Hahahahahahahaha

Sweet teens with a taser trying to carjack an elderly gentleman. Nice.

Who said anything about them being 'sweet teens'? The intent was a robbery that escalated into someone dying.

A run-of-the-mill lawyer with some previous experience with juveniles and serious crimes.

In other words, if your original intent is a lesser crime, no significant consequence for end results if you're a teen? No wonder older criminals and some parents teach teens to engage in criminal behavior, and teens aren't afraid to participate in armed muggings, breakins, and auto thefts.

Agree. At the same time, maybe age played more of a role? If he were a young, tall, strong Pakistani man, would they have targeted his car? Police should be able to analyze demographics of all the recent carjacking victims. I wonder if they equally steal cars from people of all races or target one or two races in particular.

If the police got hold of their cellphones and they talked about going after an older person, that could be important.

What evidence do you have this was not a hate crime?

Seems obvious that this was a hate crime.

Meanwhile, the GoFundMe for Mr. Anwar has gone viral and has way exceeded the $100,000 goal originally set. The total was at around $380,000 when I donated this morning and already it has jumped to over $400,000. I hope the funds raised ensure this family will never have to worry about money again. It won't bring him back, but it will replace his lost wages (apparently he was the family breadwinner) and then some.

You need evidence something is a hate crime, not the other way around.

In the Atlanta shootings, he targeted several different Asian massage parlors and apparently had a relative who died of COVID. That's evidence it might be a hate crime.

There's no evidence that they targeted him because of his race, ethnic background, or age.

I don’t think these girls targeted him because of his race. But I do believe that if the man was black or white they would not have done this. Black because that looks like a cousin or brother and they see that person more like someone they could know. I also thru they would not have targeted a younger person.

They saw an older person of a different race as defenseless and that his well-being (and thus life) didn’t matter to them at all.

This whole thing is seriously sad. A 13 or 15yo is so Immature. They do not think!!! They had the short sighted goal of having fun with bragging rights of stealing a car, and a man was MURDERED for their foolishness!

They definitely should be punished! Problem is, even as a felony Manslaughter they will not get more than 30 years. And after those 30 years they will still have half a life left and still be of child bearing age, and because of their circumstances be associated with other felons.... as friends, family, etc. Having been incarcerated over the previous 30 years, including their formative early adult years, they would likely not be prepared (or able) to be good parents to their likely delinquent offspring. And the cycle continues!

But , if we let them “off” with lighter sentence, the result won’t be much better.

Victims have been black, white, brown, pink, purple.

Watch the video of an older black man getting assaulted in Baltimore. Teen boy deliberately stomps the guy's head repeatedly.
