+1 People who are lost and feeling adrift are easily swayed into joining cults and gangs. This isn't a white person or American thing. Look, I can't be responsible for people who are "lost and feeling adrift". These discussions are getting ridiculous, and bordering on asinine.

No, you can't. Which is why we need gun control.

I'll control my guns. Don't make me responsible for another person's bad actions. I do not inherit their guilt.

If posters can blame the black community and the muslim community, why can't other posters blame the white community for this? Do blacks inherit the guilt of other blacks? Do Muslims inherit the guilt of other muslims? And yet conservatives have no problem assigning it.

No, you don't inherit their guilt because not all gun owners are prosecuted when one commits a crime. But laws can be used to address collective action problems. Why do we outlaw cocaine? Because some people have a hard time controlling themselves and become a danger and/or burden society because they can't use it responsibly. It appears that guns are the similar in this way. And, of course, some people still use illegal drugs. But their is much, much less use than if you could grab a line from the local Walgreens on your way home from work.

So when there is a "terrorist" attack by a Muslim, do you not make comments because the discussions about them are "getting ridiculous, and bordering on asinine."? Somehow, I doubt it.

Terrorism is, in the broadest sense, the use of intentionally indiscriminate violence as a means to create terror among masses of people; or fear to achieve a financial, political, religious or ideological aim.

I don't believe a school shooter (yet) is setting out to do that. They're setting out for notoriety or they're just plain insane. They may write rantings, but are they political? Not that I can remember. Are they grouped together and acting in concert, one after another? Not that I can remember.

As stated, whether it's religious, political or just general hate ideology, people who are "lost and adrift" are easily swayed into cults and gangs.

The feeling of powerlessness and being adrift can be so powerful that people are willing to kill themselves (like those doomsday cult followers) or vote a reality tv star into the most power position in the world.

+1 if black communities own the black violence, and Muslim community should "see something, say something", then white community should also do the same. Figure out what is making your young white males commit mass murder, and fix it, because the rest of us are suffering for it.

So that's a no then. Exactly what I thought.

White killer = mentally ill
Muslim killer = terrorist

Well, if you feel that way, then amend the 2nd amendment.

You highlighted the wrong clause. Let me fix that for you:

Terrorism is, in the broadest sense, the use of intentionally indiscriminate violence as a means to create terror among masses of people; or fear to achieve a financial, political, religious or ideological aim.

They are terrorists.

How about we start by stop demonizing white males (e.g., white privilege, toxic masculinity, making most ever other group protected in the workplace, giving preferential treatment to women and other races in college admissions (except Asians). Men—and especially white men—are bombarded with negative shit all the time (e.g., manspreading, mansplaining, etc.). For young men just look at groups and clubs on high school and college campus—every race, females, Lbgt, etc have special groups but none for white males—I guess they don’t have any identity issues or need support. No other group is getting hit with such negativity and discrimination. I would hate to be a young, white male in America today and know more than a few who plan to leave the US after finishing their degrees as they feel there is no future for them in the US. I can’t blame them. If you are a young, white male be prepared to go to the back of the line no matter how stellar your credentials.

This is complete and utter B.S. My DH is a young white conservative Christian male and he is killing it. And he doesn't feel like a victim or feel threatened when other people talk about white male privilege, because he is smart and works hard and there will always be a place at the table for people like that. I don't doubt that for below average white guys, life is harder than it used to be. Women have left the kitchen and the slaves have left the fields. Buck up, buttercup.

Look sometime at the books for al quaida. Much of their budget went to paying the families of the jihadis. It was a way to provide for the family. Middle class people who are becoming radicalized is a much harder to understand problem. It seems to come down to identity issues and finding a home in a loony tunes ideology. Disaffected white youth don’t seem to shout “allahu akbar” but there are similarities in how they are getting radicalized

When my grandmother was born, women didn't have the right to vote. When my parents went to high school, they were still segregated. Women and people of color have been widely regarded as inferior for CENTURIES, relegated to slaves and servants, robbed of the power to control their own destinies. And you are whining about manspreading? Here is victim mentality at its finest. You poor precious snowflake.

Well, when you see a backlash, don't say you weren't warned.

Wow people on this board are amazing in their ability to be completely wrong but insist they are right. These shooters are not terrorists.

One of these days people might listen to what’s happening to these kids but it’s obviously too soon for that.
