Get up early and workout before work. Or after work.
Park further away. Stop looking for those close spaces. Changed your mind about an item at the store? WALK back and put it where it belongs, instead of some random lazy spot (which also makes one a jerk). Clean your own house. Do your own yard work. Shovel your sidewalks. Walk if you get a lunch break. Honestly I find it hard to not get at least 15k steps a day, and I don't run anymore. I'm just active and naturally busy. 10k steps is a light day. |
How is everyone tracking steps? I got an Apple Watch last year and that’s when I learned I was walking a lot fewer steps than I thought using other trackers. So now 10K seems like a lot. |
I posted a few pages ago, but I got 10k today without actively working out or supplementing on the walking pad. I live in NYC and:
- ran an errand (made a return to a store 6 blocks from my home), plus walked around the store a bit; - walked 35 blocks to visit a friend (just sat on her couch); and - walked home with stops at the grocery store and CVS on the way. This got me to 11k. I wear an Apple Watch so small stuff like getting up to go to the bathroom, etc., is recorded. |
My physical therapist went to a conference about walking and that was one of the things said. Hitting 8k is plenty. |
I don’t always get 10,000 and I don’t care. I workout 6 days a week fairly intensely but some of that is weights or HIIY and I don’t get 10k. That’s fine with me. I know I’m healthy. |
This. The whole 10k steps thing has been debunked. |
I got a tracked watch (Fitbit) and found the opposite—many more steps than when using my phone to track. Presumably because it is always in and I don’t always carry my phone around. So it’s counting walking around the house, up and downstairs etc Agree with other posters that 10k steps is more like four miles |
You don’t need 10k. 5-8k is fine |
I used a Fitbit for years and got steps for folding laundry. The arm movement is more sensitive to count as a step. Apple Watch is more accurate I think with forward motion and distance. |
This is just personal data on my Apple Watch. 10k is less than 5 miles. I can get about 2300-2500 during a 1 mile walk. |
Fine for what? For you? Why would you want to encourage to walk less? If your goal is 5000 steps, fine. If mine is 10,000, encourage me to get there or STFU. Really weird post. |
5,000 is basic daily movement. 10,000 will maintain your weight. 15,000 you can lose weight. |
Fitbit tells me 5 miles is about 11,350 steps. My Fitbit triggers me to walk 250 steps every hour from 7am through 8pm. I try to get them done in the first ten minutes so any additional walking is extra - like to the grocery store or where ever. Then, I walk 3 miles a day for exercise. That usually gets me close to 10k. |
For me, it’s a bit over 4 miles. I walk 35 minutes each way to work which is about 3.4
Miles. The little steps throughout the day get the rest. But even when I can’t do that, a few walks around the block and a grocery run add up. |
