It’s good to have choices.

The hearty group of people asking if they would still receive social security and ACA benefits?

Ok.

Social security isn’t welfare. Recipients pay for it when they work. The government doesn’t invest the contributions and pays back in devalued dollars. ACA sucks.

Except the GOP has been trying to dismantle Social Security since the 1930's when it was enacted.

Why is that man wearing pink and blue nail polish?

Those are probably his two favorite colors.

Texas secessionist group locks down Facebook page after fears about losing Social Security checks leak out
The Texas secession movement is being mocked online after one of its supporters questioned whether leaving the Union would interfere with their Social Security benefits.
In response, the Facebook group, which describes itself as a place for “Texans to discuss the pros and cons of secession” went private.

A screenshot of the question, asked by a user in the Facebook group “Texas Patriots for Secession,” went viral on Monday after being shared across social media.

“If we secede, do we still get our Social Security monthly checks?” the user asked.
As the question went megaviral, the page appeared to be locked down, making content visible only to members.

Honestly would not mind if Texas left to form its own country -- we would be better off without them.

So you mean all the red taker states would leave? Man, can you imagine how awesome that would be for the blue states that have been subsidizing them for the past 70 years?

The amount of money the U.S. would save and the amount those states would lose is astronomical. I'd love to see an econ spreadsheet on that.

We'd have a new border crisis: Texans trying to get into the U.S.

Oklahoma would barbwire the red river.

Ok. But it will be a civil "war" without any fighting since they want to go and we want the same. Maybe it just involves fist bumping or high fiving.

The takers of all states would immigrate to the blue country. Producers would move to red

Sure. No social security, medicare, FDIC, farm subsidies, federal highway program, federal prison system, CBP, Homeland security, military, access to US weapons, access to the US market, OSHA, unions, worker rights, SEC, etc. All companies with HQ in Texas or other states would be considered foreign companies and taxed according. Oil and gas producers would lose subsidies. Texas gets anywhere from 25-50% of it state budget from the federal government. No NFL or college football.

About 1/2 the state’s population would leave the state. It would be a very hard time in Texas. Texas would also reinstate slavery.

The Republic of Texas would just go bankrupt again after achieving "independence" and then come crawling back to the U.S. like it did 180 years ago.

We'll want to vet the refugees fleeing secessionist states for fear of losing their social security and benefits to see if they had MAGA postings all over their FB pages 🤡

Agree. They'd instantly hit 20-25% unemployment levels. But sure, let them try, and learn the hard way.

Let’s see what kind of military you can raise without all the Texans. You gonna replace them with blue-haired kids from Vermont?

This is confusing. Do Texans want to seceed or do they want to serve the United States in the military?

You could make one of those Texas style laws that could sic vigilantes on anyone trying to leave that makes more than a certain income and on any person that tries to help them.

In fact, you could just get rid of law enforcement (looking at you uvalde) and just go total vigilante justice.
