Texas' standoff with the feds in Eagle Pass is igniting calls for secession and fears of violence

The calls for Texas to defend itself and defy the federal government have set fire to a long-simmering fight over states’ rights, emboldening right-wing figures.
Daniel Miller felt encouraged last week, as fears of a new civil war trended online and a coalition of powerful Republicans coalesced behind Gov. Greg Abbott’s standoff with the Biden administration.

As the longtime leader of Texas’ unlikely secessionist movement, Miller has for decades argued that the state is in a stranglehold by the federal government that, eventually, would prompt enough popular support for a vote to leave the union. The past week only reinforced that belief.

"It validates and confirms the position we've had all along, which is that if Texas ever wants to truly secure its border … the only way we’re going to do it is as an independent and self-governing nation,” Miller said in an interview.

Texas secessionist group locks down Facebook page after fears about losing Social Security checks leak out
The Texas secession movement is being mocked online after one of its supporters questioned whether leaving the Union would interfere with their Social Security benefits.
In response, the Facebook group, which describes itself as a place for “Texans to discuss the pros and cons of secession” went private.

A screenshot of the question, asked by a user in the Facebook group “Texas Patriots for Secession,” went viral on Monday after being shared across social media.

“If we secede, do we still get our Social Security monthly checks?” the user asked.
As the question went megaviral, the page appeared to be locked down, making content visible only to members.

It won't happen, but just think, no more Ted Cruz, Greg Abbott etc.

that said, how much is Russia paying Texans for this, given they offered to pay the Basques 500 millions dollars to do the same thing.

Can they just leave already? The rest of us don’t want them. Maybe Mexico can take them back.

It would lead to more than half the states following them. Probably a one year chance to immigrate for US citizens. There would be no welfare so it would be a hearty group of people.

It’s good to have choices.
