If there were a Constitutional way for Texas to secede from the Union and they chose to do it, the Texas National Guard would be reallocated to other national guard units. The new nation of Texas would have no military, but would have a lot of localized wealth, which means that many terrorist groups and private armies from South and Central America would likely come to plunder the unguarded suburbia. If they were lucky, Mexico would just annex them and they would get the protection of a true sovereign nation.

My dad was in Vietnam with a unit from Texas, and he hated them until the day he died. In his stories, they were responsible for many deaths of fellow soldiers because they were so incompetent. And, as a southern white guy who was racist, he said the Hispanic members of the unit were the only ones he could trust. I think we would be fine without Texas.

Take all federal money, blow up the military bases, and help anyone who wants to leave. I don't really think Texans realize that their SS and Medicare payments will stop too, but you may not want to tell them.

I would never stop laughing if, after all their bluster, Texas ended up back as part of Mexico again. And if DC was awarded statehood to maintain the number of states.

Meanwhile, we saw the largest number of encounters in history from Mexico at our southern border in December.

Texas isn't going anywhere. Trump won over old man Biden by a mere 5 points. Cruz beat Beto O'Rourke by less than 2 points, and that's mostly because Beto made some stupid comments about guns.

Texas is two election cycles away from being a purple state - depending, of course, on what Democrats choose to do. They got carried away with Covid and BLM and anti-Trump derangement. And progressives - just like fundamentalist evangelical Republicans - have been a dead weight for their party. That should self-correct. Good candidates will be competitive in Texas. As they are in Kentucky for instance. Texas is not Oklahoma. Some idiots with cowboy hats and rifles are having a little costume party. It's nothing serious.
