I thought it had just white and Asian students and looked nothing like the county which is mostly Hispanic.

38% Asian
37% White
12% Black
8% Hispanic
4% Two or more

Wow didn’t realize it had finally flipped to majority Asian. Yikes.

By one percentage point...you know that's well within the margin of error, right?

low SES diversity like <5% right?

Wootton is one of the least diverse schools in this county. The county is like 30something % Hispanic kids, 15% Asian kids, and I think like 30% FARMs.

Neighboring RMHS is an actually diverse HS.

I’m zoned for Wootton and this is true. Richard Montgomery is truly diverse - you don’t get clumps of Asian kids all over the place- they are well integrated and when you see various friend groups around school and after school, they are truly diverse. When our kid is done with 8th, we are moving to Richard Montgomery to avoid the imbalanced demographics at Wootton.

Ummm please

RM has a drug bathroom on the 3rd floor. Two incidences of guns on campus last year, the Facebook live sex video, the 3-4 fights a day, and a TON of bigoted and racist acts. Not to mention how over crowded it is and how quickly it is slipping each year in best county/state schools. The AP pass and grad rates are lower than Wootton even with having an IB program.

And they get the Asian diversity from that IB program. None of them want to hang out with the regular kids. None

So yes, the % look a little better, so send your kid there. Enjoy!!

You are misinformed. Do you have kids in the RM cluster? I bet you don't. Look at the JWMS demographics. I'll post it for you. 17% Asian.

https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/03211.pdf

Yes, many in RMIB magnet are Asian students. Guess what, some of those include former JWMS student, mine included.

Yep, RM is way more diverse than Wootton, so it has issues that come with having a higher % of low income kids. But, you are wildly misinformed about the RM non IB cohort. Many smart kids in the cluster choose not to do IB because of time commitment to other activities.

Sounds like your son missed out. The GloCo after party was a hit and many other schools in the county have started going this route. Whitman included. Much better attendance after the football game then on Saturday night. Kids still dressed up, took pictures had dinner etc on Saturday night but this way kids were all at the dance at the same time instead of sporadically throughout the night as was the case at Churchill's homecoming dance.

There is no one zoned for Wootton that would purposely send their kids to RM, especially after so many incidences the past 2 years and how over crowded it is. Wootton has better AP offerings, better teachers, more involved parents, and a safer environment. This is 100% a troll.

Wait, so kids dressed up, took HoCo pictures and went to dinner but didn't go to a dance?

What's the impetus behind this trend? Do kids no longer like Homecoming dances? This is all news to me.

The thing is Asians want more security being with Asians. It’s very hard for Asians growing up being the minority everywhere. They’re discriminated, ignored and marginalized everywhere. Many of them growing up with psychological trauma. It’s natural that they want to be in a school with more Asians. When they have the chance to stay together and form a strong group, it’s ridiculous to tell them that their school is not diverse and not reflecting the county population. The school is much more diverse than most US schools. Forcing them to move to schools with 15% or less Asians is cruel.

wtf? I have lived in the US since 1970 (yea, I'm old), when there weren't very many Asians. I don't have psychological trauma from that. Good grief.

I can understand their parents wanting to live in an area with a lot of other Asian, but kids aren't traumatized by going to a school that is < 10% Asian.

I hope you are a troll.

-Asian American parent

You can only speak for yourself, not other Asians who have psychological trauma. I hope you are a troll.

RM is a much nicer school. You make a lot of assumptions about others. I'd pick RM over Wootton every time. The IB is much stronger than anything Wootton has to offer. RM also has way more NMSF and overall better college outcomes. In fact, there's really no comparison.

Oh sweetie. Go look at the college results. Wootton doesn’t even have an IB program and outperforms RM in testing, AP courses offered, AP passing %, college admissions, and graduation rates.

Ritchie Park ES was pulled from Wootton and then they added the IB program - all to pull RM out of the basement and make their numbers look presentable. But they now have the least favorable IB program and it and the entire school has been slipping in numbers for the last 7 years.

But yes your building is newer. Still more overcrowded and problematic. Good luck!

LMFAO Are you kidding me? RM has some of the best stats among IB schools in MCPS.

Kennedy's IB program is easily the worst performing in the county. Look at the data again cause your eyesight is off.
