The only part of wootton that is going to change is the sliver of Washingtonian towers that for some reason goes to Wootton district. The school is not overcrowded like the rest of the schools. If they take away Traville by any chance, they will be so under populated that they will just add Ritchie Park back in. No different. So don’t expect much change. |
They could give travillah to QO (also an ES from northwest to QO and then half of QO to crown. Then add Beall ES or something else to Wootton. That solves all overcrowding issues of these five high schools. Just a possibility. |
That isn’t a possibility and do over the top. |
| I’m hoping to move to to an area zoned to Wootton and unlikely to be redistricted. Looking at Dufief, Stone Bridge, and Hunting Woods. Possibly Willows. Any opinions on which of those are more safe than others? |
Willows |
Unless you are literally across the street from the school entrance, no area is safe from being rezoned. Take a look at the current boundaries for some of the school clusters. MCPS doesn't always draw the boundaries based on geography. And Wootton being the least diverse HS in the clusters being looked at for Crown HS boundary, it's probably going to be looked at very closely to even out the FARMS rate across the HSs. |
Unless they bus twinbrook ES and some Gaithersburg ES to Wootton, and bus Wootton kids out, other boundary changes are not going to even out the farms rate. The rest of areas are not poor at all. But that would really break the communities apart. |
Past experience indicates that MCPS is willing to do just this. |
My hope is that MCPS will be content to achieve a target FARMS rate/demographics at Crown and take an easy win rather than to try to also try do the same with Wootton and even things out. In addition to kicking hornet’s nest of wealthy homeowners, the latter would be significantly more work to actually pull off. I’m willing to gamble on them doing less work. |
Wootton, along with RM, QO and Gaithersburg HS, which HS is currently too crowded? I am debating where they are going to pull kids from these HS to new built Crown HS in year 2026/2027 for service? |
RM and QO |
Hey Dummy! Wootton is diverse, 60% minority enrollment. Let me guess you are going to say that's not diversity!!!! 60.0% Minority Enrollment 39.9% White 36.0% Asian 11.8% Black 8.0% Hispanic 4.0% Two or More Races 0.2% American Indian/Alaska Native |
hey dummy, I'm Asian American, and compared to the other neighboring schools Wootton is not diverse, especially when it comes to the FARMS rate which is what MCPS is really trying to make more equitable. 8% hispanic in a county of almost 40% Hispanic. gmafb. |
You need to look in neighborhoods which currently do not get bus service to Wootton, i.e. the "walk zone." https://www2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/siteassets/district/departments/transportation/busroutes/04234bus.pdf If there are Wootton bus stops in a neighborhood, then kids can be rezoned and ride a bus to another school. If the neighborhood kids currently walk to Wootton, they will remain walkers. |
One of the least diverse schools in MCPS with little to no SES diversity. |
