Nice school. Very diverse. Pretty competitive. Mostly hard working kids.
I thought it had just white and Asian students and looked nothing like the county which is mostly Hispanic.
38% Asian 37% White 12% Black 8% Hispanic 4% Two or more
low SES diversity like <5% right?
Wootton is one of the least diverse schools in this county. The county is like 30something % Hispanic kids, 15% Asian kids, and I think like 30% FARMs. Neighboring RMHS is an actually diverse HS.
I’m zoned for Wootton and this is true. Richard Montgomery is truly diverse - you don’t get clumps of Asian kids all over the place- they are well integrated and when you see various friend groups around school and after school, they are truly diverse. When our kid is done with 8th, we are moving to Richard Montgomery to avoid the imbalanced demographics at Wootton.
Ummm please RM has a drug bathroom on the 3rd floor. Two incidences of guns on campus last year, the Facebook live sex video, the 3-4 fights a day, and a TON of bigoted and racist acts. Not to mention how over crowded it is and how quickly it is slipping each year in best county/state schools. The AP pass and grad rates are lower than Wootton even with having an IB program. And they get the Asian diversity from that IB program. None of them want to hang out with the regular kids. None So yes, the % look a little better, so send your kid there. Enjoy!!
You are misinformed. Do you have kids in the RM cluster? I bet you don't. Look at the JWMS demographics. I'll post it for you. 17% Asian. https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/03211.pdf Yes, many in RMIB magnet are Asian students. Guess what, some of those include former JWMS student, mine included. Yep, RM is way more diverse than Wootton, so it has issues that come with having a higher % of low income kids. But, you are wildly misinformed about the RM non IB cohort. Many smart kids in the cluster choose not to do IB because of time commitment to other activities.
I am a RP/JW/RM parent and most of the Asian JW students leave for other Magnet/IB programs likes Blair and Wootton because they area so much better. And yes, many stay to to go into RM IB if they weren't offered those spots. So yes, the majority of the Asian population at RM go to IB whether they were from JW or now bused in.
There is no magnet program at Wootton. Many of the JWMS Asian students go to RMHS even if they don't get into the RM magnet program. They have the option to join in 11th grade and be with the magnet cohort.
