Dufief. Dufief is considered the poorest school so they have already said Dufief would remain. The others are up for grabs.

Who said this? Is it documented anywhere? I know a few residents who didn’t mention it.

Sorry OP, will drop this after.

At a Dufief PTA meeting, our prez said this.

That's only speculation. Too early to know anything like that. The boundary study hasn't even been authorized yet.

Is there an official DCUM definition of "diverse" or do we all bring our own personal idea of what makes a school diverse?

(That's a rhetorical question, btw.)

Give me a f'king break re. diversity non-sense. You are living in one of the most diverse counties in the country (if not the MOST diverse county). Any school in MCPS is diverse enough unless you are trying to avoid certain groups. If that's what you are doing, guess what? You are a racist.

I hope MCPS isn't using racial diversity, like everyone in this thread seems to assume. But if they are, they should break out 'Asian' into it's subcategories. Near East, South, South East, and Far East asians are nothing alike with different religions, cuisine, clothes, skin color, and societal norms. On that mark, Wootton is culturally diversity.

But for MCPS, I think they are more focused on SES, with ethnicity as lazy proxy for it. Which is why rich Hispanic and AA still count as 'diversity'.

I have also found this annoying and interesting which is another reason you cannot listen to DCUM. I am middle eastern and according to many data sets that makes me white. Indians and Chinese are two completely different cultures and languages but yet on paper they are the same. The stats don’t mean anything.

In all honesty if I was considering a school I would check the Schools at a glance data sheet for the school, park outside or walk by during dismissal and check out the social media pages.

Their diversity means AA and Hispanic not being the majority. All other ethnicities don’t matter. Very narrow definition driven by political agenda.

Not sure that's true, but it isn't a good reflection of the county's diversity and there is almost 0 SES diversity so I think it's fair to say that Wootton isn't diverse for MCPS.

Did OP ask about diversity? All the W haters just chime in the same thing on every W thread. We get it, Wootton is not diverse the way you would want it to be. We still think that it’s a great school and like it. Move on.

Not very MCPS diverse. But definitely diverse enough.

It probably has more ethnic groups than the diverse part you refer to. It just doesn’t have the diversity per your definition. But diverse is diverse.
