you're the troll claiming " Many of them growing up with psychological trauma". And you can only speak for yourself, as well. |
+1 RMIB has the best IB diploma outcome in MCPS, and is way above the average IB diploma rate globally. Yes, part of what makes RM great is the IB diploma program which RM cluster kids can join in 11th grade. Wootton doesn't have that program. But, saying "RM is only great because of IB" is like saying "Wootton is only great because of all the Asian kids". What makes a school great? IMO, part of it is the programming, and RM has some great programming. Obviously, Wootton's test scores are reflective of the student body. They have a small FARMs rate and high Asian American population. That combination usually equates to high test scores. But, what dose that mean for your individual kid? Nothing. Your kid isn't going to get high test scores by osmosis. OP, if you are still reading.. a lot of parents in the Wootton cluster look down on children who don't have high test scores. And I say this as a parent whose kid had a 1590 SAT score and 4.0 gpa, and 4.95 wgpa. |
Agree, I just feel there's more opportunity for a high-achieving student at RM than Wootton. Sure, Wootton has higher test score averges because it has less SES diversity but as a PP pointed out that doesn't help individual students. |
| Is there really a “RM is better than Wootton” troll on this board? No shot lol |
|
OP, it’s a great school. Not sure why an RM family came in to take over this thread but most ppl are very happy at Wootton. Great teachers and classes. Most kids are focused to learn. And yes it is diverse.
Families pay a lot of money to live in this district because the school speaks for itself. Your child will find friends quickly. |
Wootton, along with RM, QO and Gaithersburg HS will all look different after Crown HS is built. Your child may or may not find friends quickly. DC has friends in the Wootton cluster, and they said it's a very cliquey school. If your kid is not a high achiever, then they will be relegated to the non high achieving friend groups. And their building is falling apart. |
Biracial, not diverse |
| Wootton is not diverse. It is literally wealthy white kids and overachieving Asians (who only socialize with one another). Would not be a great fit for a kid who doesn’t fit into either of these categories. Although I will say the white kids are friendly and inclusive. |
NAILED IT! |
Wootton is a fine school but it has one of the least sensible or compact boundaries in the county. I would be surprised if it weren't completely redrawn as part of the changes with nearby schools like Crown. |
That’s true your kid may not learn by osmosis, but when his classmates care and out an effort in school, that will rub off on them and will have a strong peer cohort to interact and study with. |
And that's true with the high-achieving cohort present at all MCPS schools. |
Looking at the sheer number of NMSF at RM it's a safe bet that RM's high-achieving cohort > Wootton's high-achieving cohort so based on their reasoning a kid would do better at RM |
Both are fine schools and any kid who is interested can get a fantastic education at either. |
That’s not true. There are some overachieving kids (Asians, Whites, and other races). But many Asians are not overachieving at all. Many of them end up in Montgomery college, Towson, UMBC, etc. UMDCP enrollment is only 27% this year. Very few going to Ivy Leagues. |
