And, despite the fact that 31 Dems voted with Republicans, some Dems are calling it racist.
The word has become irrelevant.

Of course, Schumer is unlikely to bring it to a vote.

Schumer can't stop this. Under procedural rules for this type of legislation, any senator can bring this to a vote, and it only has to pass with a simple majority to go to Biden. And I'm going to guess at least a few Democrats are going to vote with the Republicans again in the senate.

And Biden will refuse to sign, right?

No way he does anything that -- rightly or wrongly -- makes him seem soft on crime, not with an election coming up. Republicans would tee off on him. He'll express his reluctance but will sign it, while privately making sure Charles and Brianne and all the others become lepers in Democratic circles for bringing this mess to him in the first place.

Put the 2 pieces of legislation on the public ballot in DC. If it loses, Nadeau and Allen should resign for making a public spectacle of DC and wasting untold taxpayer $

Getting really sick of mentally ill people on the streets, posing a risk to themselves and everyone else, due to a misguided belief in the "right to be unhoused."

I don’t think it’s so much a belief in the right to be unhoused (although I certainly know people who think that way). I think it’s more just a practical issue/. There are more mentally ill homeless because the fetanyl and meth that is available now makes you mentally ill (and maybe even the strong strains of weed. For some people). They clear them from one area and they just move to another. They cleared Franklin park and they all moved to McPherson. I think McPherson is scheduled to be cleared next month so they will all just move again, maybe to Farragut which is currently clear or maybe back to Franklin. It’s whack a mole with the encampments.

Yes, but the reason why they keep moving is because of the fundamental progressive belief that they have a right to be unhoused rather than institutionalized. I'm happy to pay more in taxes if it means that we can get these people the help that they need and force them off the street if they are dangerous.

If we give the government more money to fix this, they will buy each unhoused two tents. That will make them twice as happy.

The privilege dynamics are disappointing but not surprising.

Biden is going to 100% sign it and he should.

And this is DC, so there will be no bond for the suspect if arrested. And likely no prosecution if charges are ever filed against anyone. It was only a minor assault. She’s got insurance, I’m sure

OMG you are such an idiot if you think that assault goes unprosecuted because of DC. Who concocted this weird fantasy world for you?

It's not fantasy, it's reality. Crime is not punished in DC. To be real, it's barely frowned upon by the Mayor and Council.

I think you should separate the Mayor and the Council. I am no Bowser fan, but I would say that she has generally aligned with policing efforts, while the Council has aligned with defunding, 'restorative justice', creative age limits and prosecutors (including federal) who plea down everything including gun crimes. I'm sure she's secretly pleased about recent Congressional actions, which align with her own expressed opinions, but she can't say so in her out loud voice because...statehood.

She dismisses youth violence as "kids being kids," I'm not gonna let that go.

I have not really seen that. I am not a Bowser fan, but I think she actually holds the line on crime (compared to the Council). They are absolutely out of touch looney tunes.

Really? Since you’re not gonna let that go, do you have anything substantive that supports your particular bone? Where did Bowser say — or even imply “kids being kids”? It’s funny that your taking that tack here when this incident has nothing to do with kids at all.

Why do you choose to engage in discourse that way? Can you state your opinion on the crime bill without being rude and only focusing on political parties?

Doing so would give whatever ghoul the Republicans nominate a whole lot of easy ammunition. It's not happening.
