If you want to lose weight, you need to restrict calories. Following a particular diet won't help if you're eating too many calories.

focus on fish, vegetables, low sugar fruits like apples and cherries (avoid pineapple and melon - very high sugar)
cut out white flour, pasta etc

I have lost 12 lbs since the middle of May. Goal is to lose another 12.

Pineapple. This could be the reason my weight is not dropping as expected. I made a shake with pineapple, passion fruit, and a tiny bit of mango to increase my vitamin C levels.

Focusing on cutting out specific foods is not the answer if you're just going to eat more of something else.

Chopping off an arm would get you there

Honestly, I've never heard of canned chicken. Why wouldn't you use fresh chicken?

Most folks find it easiest to skip breakfast and eat a healthy lunch and dinner. I do have an extra coffee in the morning to help fill me up.

Take a daily multiple vitamin. Don't skip it. Right after lunch. My daughter and I are vegetarian so we both take a B-complex everyday.

I make some kind of homemade soup every couple of days for snacking. No canned crap. Soup is the easiest, cheapest, and healthiest snack you can do. Go for cold and warm soups now that it is summer.

Go to bed as early as you can. If I stay up even an hour later I get restless and start to munch again.

After a month of this you may find it easy to adopt one or things as a lifestyle choice.

Your diet will affect your weight much faster than exercise will. But don't stop your routine. It sounds great.

It's better to skip dinner than breakfast.

NP.

Most people have more willpower in the morning. So skipping breakfast is more acievable.

Make sure those 2 meals a day that do eat contain lots of protein and veggies. Otherwise you will be hungry.

Yesterday for dinner I ate an ear of corn on the cob and a huge salad. Dessert is watermelon. The salad had black beans and an avocado to fill me up. Finished up at 7:30 pm. Walk moderately fast (sweat a bit!) for an hour and them sleep 10-6. In the a.m. I exercise 30-60 minutes including light weights in front of my bedroom or bathroom mirror while listening to the news and weather. I have 2 large cups of coffee each with an ounce of whole milk and i will not be hungry til about 11am. Also protein + veggies for lunch.

I never gain weight with this kind of healthy routine. I used to do triathlons but when the kids came along that went by the wayside. Now it's about 1.5-2 hours of moderate exercise each day, so I have to depend on a smarter diet to keep the weight off.

A few months ago, I lost 5lbs in a month to reach my goal weight. This was “real” weight loss, not water weight, I was already a healthy weight, just wanted to make my final push.
As a result, all my nails became brittle and broke off. Scared the hell out of me. I’m at maintenance now and my nails are back.

Just adding my 2 cents. Don’t try and stay at a deficit too long.

I'd stick to what you are doing but if it doesn't work - do Prolon. It's not my favorite thing to do but I am not very overweight and I lose 4 lbs in the 5 day fast. You gain a pound back but 3 lbs isn't bad and it's a great jump start.

It's not keto but you could transition to keto and lose another few pounds. After 5-6 lbs it will get rougher to drop but it's doable in a month unless you are already really thin

That’s a lofty goal if you’re not very overweight or obese

Not the OP but I read that as not because canned chicken is healthier or any other benefits, but it allows you to track calories easier.

OP here. Thanks for the responses. I’ve implemented some of the tricks suggested here and lost 4 lbs. I’ve also been sweating doing chores in the garden.

Which tricks?

Cabbage soup diet, like my mom used to do in the 70s and 80s! No fasting. Basically for a week you eat endless bowls of delicious vegetable soup (my mom made the best variations) and a little something different each day. My mom's favorite was sweet potato day -- she would "cheat" and buy the biggest one she could find. She would always lose 5-7 pounds that week.

I do it now too about 2x per year to kickstart me after gaining too much weight, especially in winter. I do take extra vitamins that week. A suggestion I learned here on this board is to make only enough soup to last 2 days then make more and change it up to last the next 2 days, etc. so you don't get tired of it. I even do leek soup now for a day. I love soup so I really love this "trick".

Whaat?!?! I always lose weight in the summer as I pretty much live on watermelon and cantaloupe and peaches and home-grown tomatoes -- you know -- the fresh stuff; eating in-season. I have to remember to eat anything else!

Lots of suggestions here, OP. Find ones that work for *you.*
