Affluent people with dirty/messy houses

The horsey casual rich people in Middleburg sound like people I’d like to know. Dog hair and gin? Yes please.

The germaphobe anal clenching strivers who bought the Restoration Hardware catalog dream? Not as much.

The PP is one of those delusional metro riders who doesn't shower daily and dry cleans his only pair of work pants monthly and think he's all fine. I was pregnant with my 2nd, it was summer, and I almost puked from the smell of dirty hair, dirty sweaty crotch (he was manspreading, of course) and gum disease. But that's OK, because he's "fun" and "relaxed".

I've always had cleaners and ran a shipshape home. COVID, health conditions, and a full house has resulted in standards being very down. I have 4 people (above 16) in the house who do not want to help to clean. The only time they will clean is when they invite people to our house. Currently, my teens are planning a holiday party at home and they are now trying to declutter the home. We have tons of things to sort and give away. The house is a mess.

I am a happier person when my home is clean, organized and decluttered. I have decided to go minimalistic because it is very hard to clean when you have so much stuff...

It seems the world is divided into those who take shoes off and those who don't. The nasty secret is that everyone is just as healthy and clean either way. But do what makes you happy. We take shoes of but we don't think lesser of those who don't and think them dirtier.

I wouldn't say the world is divided. Americans are divided. Most other countries people remove their shoes.

That’s cute that you think I ride public transit.

Be honest: you find companion animals “gross,” right?

My sister’s house is huge, and appears pretty gross. They have a cleaner who come every two weeks I think, but it’s not enough. I think the root of the issue is they just have too much stuff, plus 4 kids who trail through giant house making undiscovered messes. Both she and Her husband have pack rat tendencies. It’s just too much space, and too much stuff to keep up with. It stresses me out to be there. Sometimes I play a game where I look around and try to figure out why a room seems messy. It’s usually things like a corner with all kinds of wrapping paper supplies piled up, a dresser with a half finished art project a kid started, broken knobs on the drawers nobody got around to fully fixing and some kid tried to tape with the wrapping paper, random socks in a corner. And that’s just the out of the way guest room that doesn’t get a lot of traffic!

I think she’s hesitant to have cleaner come more often because it takes work to pick up for them, and the issue is really clutter (and the fact that clutter makes it hard to clean). Also, they are wealthy but frugal. It was better when they had a live-in nanny who cleaned, but still overwhelming.

NP. You’re both weird.

The amount of irrelevant, none of your business nonsense that people like OP spend time thinking about astonishes me.

This is us. We stopped the cleaning service because of covid and now my DH likes the savings. He always promised he will clean the house, but he doesn’t and it’s getting squalid. Once this Omicron situation dies down I’m getting the cleaners back in.

We have a housekeeper 15 hours a week, but that’s not enough to keep up with other residents who leave their stuff everywhere, drop crumbs, never notice spills when they “clean,” etc.

Taking off shoes to come indoors is very annoying when you aren’t wearing slip ons. What about when you need to go back and forth to load things in/out of the car?

Wow such a nuisance

Are you serious? We have a weekly cleaner. She stopped coming for 4 weeks at the start of Covid but then she returned and I welcomed her with open arms. Our house has more clutter than I would like but it is clean. Sheets get laundered weekly. No pets because I can’t stand cat or dog hair everywhere

We don’t have that much stuff, our house is too small, ugh!
