Firstly, I’m white and I don’t wear shoes in the house nor does any other white person I know.

Secondly, white culture isn’t a thing. Black culture is because Blacks in America have a shared culture and history and lost their home culture when they were enslaved. (So they no longer have their Ghanaian or Congolese or whatever culture because they were robbed of it.) There is no monolithic white culture. I have and share an American culture. I also have my English and Irish culture. Just as Black people are not a monolith, nor are white people. Learn something today, ok?

Ah yes, can't waste an opportunity to bash whites, even on a thread about house cleaning. Modern culture is so ridiculous and actually very dangerous.

We have 900 square feet and we have all those things you talk about and its very hard especially with work from home and kids virtual school. Ask me how I know. We don't have a ton of stuff and the minimum of furniture.

I’m uncomfortable with setting the expectation for my male kids that house cleaning is done by someone who is female and has more melanin and probably doesn’t speak English as a first language. We do it ourselves, which means it might be a while between cleaning if friends aren’t coming over. No, I’m not embarrassed.

Same here (although I’m uncomfortable with this for both female and male kids). I clean all the time, but it would probably still look a mess to someone who just dropped in. Don’t care. I think people should be responsible for their own messes.

This is my brother. He has a cleaning person come in weekly but the house is just so messy — stuff everywhere, an incontinent dog (so it reeks). I take pleasure in the fact that while he has more money than me at least I can keep my house tidy (I also have a cleaning service so can’t take credit for that but I at least keep things put away, my counters are cleared off, etc).

Some of you would be shocked at the houses I go into where people don't take shoes off. Immaculate, beautiful houses.

And other houses where people do take shoes off, which are messy and dirty.

I really don't care either way. I grew up not taking shoes off, and I take shoes off now. As far as I can tell it doesn't make a difference either way as long as you have a regular cleaner or clean regularly, such as vacuuming periodically. Which you should anyway.

We had to stop our cleaning service due to financial issues. Then we stopped maintaining the exterior of our home. Now we get offers to tear it down. If it bothers you, offer to help out or send an anonymous gift card!
