Coaching is really really really bad.

Kids still go to "academic" D3 schools or just decide not to play in college.

If GC players are regularly getting recruited by "academic" D3 schools, I say good for the players and the school. I've always thought D1 lax is way overrated, unless you are playing on a top 20 team, and actually getting playing time. Otherwise, you're just practice fooder, and it's a grind that takes away from a full college experience. D3 sports should be the model for most in my view.

Agree. I would just be nice to have a 1/2 decent coaching staff during HS games. At least make it fun. Losing by 15 isn't fun for either team.

Recruiting is from clubs anyway.

Hey if you want to play varsity as a freshman or sophomore... it's a great school.

What if your son actually got playing time at an average D1 school - what's so great about even 4 years of playing time, versus a lifetime of benefits from going to an excellent D3 school?

The best D1 lax schools tend to be some of the best colleges/universities in the country. Yale, Brown, Penn, Hopkins, Duke..I'd be ok with my son on the bench at any of these schools.

Right, but the conversation involved "average" D1 schools v. "academic" D3 schools. Not sure why anyone would choose average over elite.

Bullis offers great facilities (athletic and academic) an experienced coaching staff, and has been on a very successful run in lacrosse over the past few years. You can't deny that players have flocked to the program recently. If you are an excellent lacrosse player and you are unhappy at your current school where else would you go?

Landon? nope, too much talent on bench and would be very difficult to get playing time
Prep? nope, Mater Dei pipeline and another deep bench
SSSA? nope, new coach has turned many players and families to look elsewhere
St Alban's? nope, recent coaching changes has led to less continuity and has hurt talent
Gonzaga? nope, they have over 100 players in program
DeMatha? Yes, Program is moving in right direction
St John's? Yes, New coach=New energy
O'Connell? Yes Kevin Giblin hopes to compete in top 3 in WCAC soon

Once the word gets out that transfers are welcome at a school, then more players will inquire and apply. Bullis also built a new academic building thus Bullis has room to accept more applicants due to an increase in enrollment. I don't think any other school in the area has the ability to accept over a hundred new students due to their restrictions in enrollment. Negative comments have been made about Bullis but their lacrosse program has been on the upswing and their players have gone to some of the best colleges in the country. I prefer that schools have players for their entire high school experience at one school, but families move their kids for a whole host of reasons. Bullis may not be for everyone but it has worked out very well for many players and families.

How do you know they can accept 100 new students? I live in that area and if that is the case, I will be going to the county and complaining about the increase in traffic. The traffic is bad now in the morning and the Bullis families and students could care less about speeding through neighborhoods to avoid the traffic.

I'd rather go to an excellent d3 for the academics, not for a stupid game I'll never play again once I graduate.

The question is much did Bullis relax admissions requirements to get those recruits in. And get serious, your average Bullis student could never get into Landon or Prep or STA.

Though I read this thread strictly for entertainment, it is refreshing to see a well written post with some actual analysis from time to time.

Bullis most likely has kids that range from Ivy league scholars down to those that struggle. A place where anyone can fit in. Take a look it may work for you. But maybe not.

So Landon and St Albans lose their starting goalies to graduation.

SSSA retains all 3 of their very good goalies.

That has to bode well for SSSA.

What's the word on the goalies for the other IAC and top teams in the area?
Anonymous
look for St. Stephens to shock some teams this Spring and Prep.

Landon and Bullis while also very strong on paper better not overlook these teams.
Anonymous
SSSA has an outstanding Face-off guy which can change a game. This team will be very strong but with very little depth.
