I don't know about a permanent location, but the third is definitely not ready.

Am I the only person who doesn't believe Lochte and who thinks this makes the U.S. look terrible? Plus it distracts from the actual horrible problems that Brazil has had with the games (pollution, body parts, crime, etc.)

He's a total chucklehead, and meanwhile people were all upset over Gabby Douglas not putting her hand over her heart. Ridiculous!

Lochte is an idiot.

The gas station owner doesn't seem to be pressing charges -- either he was made whole and is happy, or nothing too serious happened at the gas station, or he's complicit.

No, I don't believe the Rio authorities.

Swedish-American here--I agree.

Not defending Lochte. Who knows what the hell he was doing? But, if I were the two detained swimmers, I would tell Brazil whatever it wanted to hear so I could go home.

Even if Lochte made up the whole thing (there was no gun and no money taken), Brazil comes off so poorly in this whole affair. We are talking about some dumb fucking jocks who never even tried to pursue charges; there was no need to turn it into a major international incident like this.

The hell? They basically slagged off the entire country during the Olympics with their ridiculous story. And Brazil is the one who comes off poorly?

You expect our drunken dude bros to accept the consequences of their actions how dare you

I think what happened is that they were drunk, acting stupid, kicked in the bathroom door and then as they were leaving they were confronted at gunpoint by the two security officers who shook them down to pay for the damage they did to the bathroom so they gave them their money and left.

So in essence, they acted like jackasses, but the security officers didn't have a right to pull guns on them and force them to hand over money either.

I think that's what happened as well. I think the blame needs to go to the criminals vandalizing private property though. No excuse for their actions.

I wonder what the issue was? *strokes chin thoughtfully* *what could it be*...

This sounds like a plausible scenario.

Right.

But it's not like robbery does not happen. This Brit got robbed too (and not just of a medal-- rim shot!)

Gabby Douglas has had stank face the entire games. Doesn't bother me, but people are reacting to it. Sucks because girls shouldn't be expected to be sweet and smiley all the time. She's got a serious game face. No one would think about that if she were a dude.

I believe this is probably what happened too.

What I can't figure out is why they would have ever told anyone a made up story. Just shut up entirely or tell the real story. We were drunk and acted like fools and then the security guard pulled a gun on us and shook us down. What's so terrible about that?

Because the idea that these four guys were ever going to stick it out with some bogus story they agreed upon is just plain dumb. Really dumb. Who thought that would ever work out.

They didn't come up with a story, Lochte told a girl, who told the press and his mother. The others never filed a police report or told the press.

They aren't known for their intellects.

How is that a shake down? This wasn't in the good ole USA where police show up and save our white asses--in Brazil you take care of your own stuff or no one will. Do you think the gas station owners would stand a chance in hell through the legal channels if Lochte hadn't opened his big mouth about this? Good luck bringing charges against the Olympians then. Lochte brought this on himself--end of story.
