FCPS not following the new state models

His website is a bunch of bullet points with zero specifics. Everyone agrees over crowding is bad, but the specifics are where people diverge.

Still waiting to hear what the republicans have to say about SATs and overcrowding. I'm guessing it will be awhile

I think the Republicans are talking about academics over social issues. Reminder: it is the SB who has focused on the social issues and made dramatic changes in the way schools work.

For example: biological boys will now be in FLE with girls. How does this make sense? Maybe, just have the trans kids skip this part.

If you read the new policy--teachers are no longer supposed to have boys and girls line up separately. Sure, you can say "everyone in red" get here and "blue" there. But, it is a ridiculous requirement and really unnecessary.

It seems that, in FCPS, the whole structure is being transformed to bow to the Trans community.

But, nothing holds a candle to keeping information from parents.

The Republican candidate for the newly redistricted Springfield District, Debra Tisler, has a strong education excellence focused platform. She stresses literacy, improved accurate grading standards, parent and community involvement, FAPE compliance, school safety, teacher support, and parent advocy, to summarize.

She is a parent advocate with a background in special ed. She is a former elementary school teacher with a masters in special ed. She is a FCPS parent. She is an excellent choice for school board.

She seems like a great and well-qualified candidate. She has my vote this Fall.

The current Board is a total disaster.

+1 I am voting all Republican for the school board this time.

++ The entire block in my neighborhood is gathering to support Paul Bartkowski for the School Board, including those who identify as Democrats.

Sure, Jan!

He’s not moderate.

He mentions nothing about supporting and retaining employees.
I'm running to represent the original interest groups when it comes to schools – students, parents, and taxpayers!

…focus on solving the overcrowding problems in schools without placing burdens on students and families; the two groups who suffer consequences from overcrowding (Apparently he thinks teachers benefit somehow from having crowded classes.)

The Board's ideologically driven agenda has resulted in…a disturbing effort to introduce age-inappropriate sexual concepts and ideas to our youngest students. (I’d like to hear examples of these concepts and ideas. It’s been asked numerous times on this board and nobody has responded with examples from the current curriculum.)

More non-controversial statement with zero explanation of how.

"Invest in early childhood education.
Provide the necessary staffing and resources to teachers and students to ensure all students are reading by third grade.
Support staffing ratios that account for the different proficiency levels for English Language Learners.
Provide the staffing and instructional resources needed to ensure every eighth grader completes algebra or other more advanced mathematics courses.
Address overcrowding in schools, especially those impacted by population growth in the Tysons periphery near the Silver Line."

those points spend a lot of money and the meals tax already failed, but there is no explanation of where she'll get funding

Is that supposed to be tongue in cheek? BC FL actually has the best education ratings in the country.

Pretty sure that Robyn Lady was at the LGBQT rally at Jackson Middle the other night. So, we know where she falls on restrooms, locker rooms, and sports.

Not so fast. This article delves into what that ranking actually means: https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/state/florida-deemed-no-1-for-higher-education-seventh-year-in-a-row-by-us-news-world-report#:~:text=Florida%2C%20the%20No.,It%20is%20also%20No.

TL/DR

"In response to questions about its methodology and metrics, a spokesperson from US News & World Report sent us the following statement:

Florida, the No. 1 state overall in the education category, ranks in the top half of states on eight of 10 education metrics. It is also No. 1 in higher education, particularly excelling in the tuition and fees metric and in metrics assessing college graduation rates. The state excels in the tuition and fees metric of the higher education subcategory and in metrics assessing college graduation rates, but ranks in the top 10 for only one pre-K-12 metric: high school graduation rate."

So red states care more about college affordability?

They do tend to have lower costs of living, so not surprising. But if all they can say for K-12 is that it's easy to graduate, great for them, but it doesn't really say anything about the quality of education.

Is the cost of living in Charlottesville that much higher than Athens or Gainesville?
