FCPS not following the new state models

Fine to support the kids. But, it would also be nice to support the straight kids who don't want to share bathrooms, locker rooms, or sports with the opposite biological sex.

This was originally a rally to protest the state rules. Changed to a rally to celebrate FCPS policy instead. That policy allows trans kids into the restrooms, locker rooms, and hotel rooms of those of the opposite biological sex.
Sports is still "iffy" because VHSL runs that.

No one cares about straight kids or girls. Not PP, not the school board, not Democrats. They need to take a seat.

TL/DR

"In response to questions about its methodology and metrics, a spokesperson from US News & World Report sent us the following statement:

Florida, the No. 1 state overall in the education category, ranks in the top half of states on eight of 10 education metrics. It is also No. 1 in higher education, particularly excelling in the tuition and fees metric and in metrics assessing college graduation rates. The state excels in the tuition and fees metric of the higher education subcategory and in metrics assessing college graduation rates, but ranks in the top 10 for only one pre-K-12 metric: high school graduation rate."

So red states care more about college affordability?

They do tend to have lower costs of living, so not surprising. But if all they can say for K-12 is that it's easy to graduate, great for them, but it doesn't really say anything about the quality of education.

FL rates #14 for K-12. VA is #13. So, both VA and FL are decent states for K-12 education. Not sure why PP is dogging FL.

Still waiting to hear what the republicans have to say about SATs and overcrowding. I'm guessing it will be awhile

I think the Republicans are talking about academics over social issues. Reminder: it is the SB who has focused on the social issues and made dramatic changes in the way schools work.

For example: biological boys will now be in FLE with girls. How does this make sense? Maybe, just have the trans kids skip this part.

If you read the new policy--teachers are no longer supposed to have boys and girls line up separately. Sure, you can say "everyone in red" get here and "blue" there. But, it is a ridiculous requirement and really unnecessary.

It seems that, in FCPS, the whole structure is being transformed to bow to the Trans community.

But, nothing holds a candle to keeping information from parents.

Source? Do you have any link to their plans?

Read the regulation. It was linked on the first page of this thread.

I see nothing about academics over social issues there, maybe you can link to the section that illustrates "the Republicans are talking about academics over social issues."

The Republican candidate for the newly redistricted Springfield District, Debra Tisler, has a strong education excellence focused platform. She stresses literacy, improved accurate grading standards, parent and community involvement, FAPE compliance, school safety, teacher support, and parent advocy, to summarize.

She is a parent advocate with a background in special ed. She is a former elementary school teacher with a masters in special ed. She is a FCPS parent. She is an excellent choice for school board.

She seems like a great and well-qualified candidate. She has my vote this Fall.

The current Board is a total disaster.

+1 I am voting all Republican for the school board this time.

++ The entire block in my neighborhood is gathering to support Paul Bartkowski for the School Board, including those who identify as Democrats.

He’s not moderate.

He mentions nothing about supporting and retaining employees.
I'm running to represent the original interest groups when it comes to schools – students, parents, and taxpayers!

…focus on solving the overcrowding problems in schools without placing burdens on students and families; the two groups who suffer consequences from overcrowding (Apparently he thinks teachers benefit somehow from having crowded classes.)

The Board's ideologically driven agenda has resulted in…a disturbing effort to introduce age-inappropriate sexual concepts and ideas to our youngest students. (I’d like to hear examples of these concepts and ideas. It’s been asked numerous times on this board and nobody has responded with examples from the current curriculum.)

According to the FCPS website, the progressives in the FCPS School Board and Superintendents have promised the following:

Benefits of SEL
Developing SEL competencies as part of students’ regular educational experience leads to:
* Improved academic performance and behavior
* Improved attitude and lower stress levels
* Increased graduation rates
* Increased preparedness for success at college or in careers
* Healthier relationships
* Stronger mental health
* Increased civic engagement

However, reality is that school is about to start in a couple of days with a never before experienced teacher shortage and classroom overcrowding; student mental health has deteriorated to the extent that resources are being directed to subcontract outside of the school system; parents’ voices are ignored;
academic achievement scores are lower than ever before; this blog is full of ad hominem attacks against conservative members of the FCPS community; and unless you are a radical progressive activist, your chances to participate in civic engagement are discouraged.

Paul Bartkowski has my vote and support over the failed promises of the current School Board and their likes. As for supporting and retaining employees, once Paul helps to get rid of money pits — such is case of the snake oil branded SEL, or constant lawsuits, resources will be redirected to improving classroom conditions; parents’ input will be welcomed and respected; and focus will be on academics, all of which, in return, will attract teachers back to FCPS. Other than that, I’m afraid there isn’t much Bartkowski could do, however, it couldn’t be worse than what the progressives have delivered the many years they have monopolized the School Board and worked for the county.

Sincere question, because I don't have time to dig around the FCPS website: is that the only thing the current school board and superintendent promise on the website, or is it just cherrypicked from a list of things that are harder to argue with?

I don't know about the website. But, I highly recommend you watch the SB meetings. The focus is on anything but academics.

Right. Can’t we support LGBTQ rights without infringing on girls and women’s rights? I get that it’s more fashionable and trendy to be pro LGBTQ, but women are still earning less than men in the job market, and that as well as their ability to retain quality healthcare and childcare are issues that deserve more attention. What about the ratio of girls to boys at TJ? That’s still lopsided.

And yes, it does infringe on girls’ rights to put a biological male on a girl’s sports team or allow them access to girl’s facilities.

Thank you for your question. My sincere and respectful answer is that I did not intend to cherry-pick from the website. That is exactly what they have under benefits of SEL in their Portal. I just copied it:

https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/social-and-emotional-learning-sel

Since SEL became the software run by its hardware, CRT, which operate the FCPS system, in my opinion, it’s instrumental to the success or failure of our students.

During school sponsored overnight trips, chaperones and staff (all adults) who may identify as transgender are able to join students in lodging accommodations and FCPS School Board and Superintendent Reid don’t think is important to notify parents ahead of time. These adults’ feelings supercede the right of parents to draw boundaries around their children, particularly when it comes to safety.

We have the activists at FCPS and Superintendent Reid to thank for such a decision. Hopefully, it won’t add to the list of law suits that are draining our resources.

It will add to the legal fees. Do they care?

Of course they don’t. They should bill the campaign of Karl Frisch as he receives large donations from activists from as far as California, who have nothing to do with FCPS. Unfortunately, the taxpayers and parents of FCPS are the ones who pay the School Board legal fees so that these progressive activists can push their agenda in our schools.
