To me, it doesn't matter. The lack of privacy and the questions on one of the surveys are inappropriate to be administered in the schools, in my opinion.

PP is challenging anyone who complains by saying it's not in the elementary survey. It doesn't matter. Parents should be REMNDED that they have the right to opt out.

Wonder if PP works in that department and fears losing a job. I've seen no information that indicates the survey is helpful.

I do get the impression that the pro survey person insulting so many posters must have some personal stake in these surveys.

I'm just tired of people pushing lies and misinformation. AND using our kids as pawns in their political games.

I have no patience for any of this BS.

Okay. Please tell us what use the surveys are. Please explain why FCPS needs this information.

That isn’t the screener.

PP is spreading misinformation.

Republicans are so vile.

Right out of the playbook. Repeat enough times and people will believe it. I’m surprised the posts aren’t made in all caps.

So none of the questions in the Youth survey the PP pasted on this thread are being asked? Or are they? Those questions are insane and if they are being asked I would like to opt my kids out of them. Is it SEL, FLE or what? What subject do I need to opt out to prevent my kids from having to answer such personal questions AT SCHOOL.

You’re deflecting.
We have people believing that their rising third grader is going to be asked the questions that are listed in this thread. People are coming right out and emphatically stating that these are in the SEL Screener, which is a lie. People think their ES children are being asked about their sexual identity, which is false. This is not addressed in K-6. Not in the SEL Screener, not in the Youth Survey and not in FLE.

uh, see question 3 in the 6th grade youth screener

are you:
male
female
non-binary
other

That is gender identity, not sexual identity.

Disagree, could cover either.

You can't disagree with a fact. Male, female, non-binary is gender identity. Heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual is sexual identity.

+1. And that’s an important question. The survey covers bullying, nutrition, support systems, extracurriculars, sleep habits, etc. The data is meaningless if you can’t break it down and tell that boys have more issues with bullying and girls are way more inclined to experience stress. And yes, by sixth grade, some kids identify as non-binary. I know a couple— from friends in my hometown in the deep red Deep South. It’s a legitimate option to give 6th graders.

Learn the difference between sexual identity (gays, sytaight, bi, asexual) and gender identity (make, female, trans, non-binary). Then, there will be one less ignorant person in the world.

Look up "gender" in the dictionary. Pretty much aligns with "sex." Though I'm sure the dictionaries will be rushing to conform with our current progressive fakery.

How about going to the direct source for accurate information: your FCPS children, and ask them the following?:
1. Has the school ever ask you about your gender identity and sexual orientation? Depending on the age, provide examples of words used in each category. If the answer is affirmative, then continue with:
2. When, and how often?
3. How did they do it? Through the school laptop, verbally, pen & paper?
4. a. Where the questions related to these two categories (gender identity & sexual orientation) in the contents of the surveys or questionnaires?
5. b. Where these questions asked along with other personal information in other questionnaires or surveys that talked about other topics? If so, what was the topic, and what was the class?
6. Were you ever told you could skip those questions? Were you told you were not obligated to provide that information?
7. Did you ever feel uncomfortable about these questions? Why?

Depending on the answer your child provides you with, you can use that as an opportunity to initiate conversations about appropriate boundaries about these topics with friends, relatives, school, and strangers. Let that be a recurring conversation since you know your child best and can judge what is developmental appropriate to discuss.

OPT OUT and shut up. God, I am so tired of you people. Just so tired of your lies, manipulation, all of it.

Why are you offended by an opt in model?

So far, your only arguments are name calling, cursing, yelling about trump supporters and republicans, making political slurs.

You have offered no rational, concrete or adult responses or arguments against following the governor's guidance that schools shall switch to an opt in model.

What are your arguments against opt in?

Can you present them in a rational, adult manner without slurs and insults?

DP. It'd be an administrative nightmare to have families opt-in for every little thing. Nothing would get gone.

The very few people (Republicans, bigots, liars) who don't want their kids to take these surveys can just opt-out. If the kids aren't comfortable, they can opt-out.

Quite the contrary. In my humble opinion, there will be very few opt-ins, so that won’t be much work for the administration to process, plus they can group all students in one room, and the rest of the school can focus on academics.

Third, this they are tracking your kid and can link survey data to them talking point is a lie that gets constantly raised and shot down on here. Telling a lie often enough does not make it true. It’s late, so I’ll just leave the FAQ here.

https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/data/youth-survey-frequently-asked-questions

In the opinion of most parents, the only important information to gather from high high schoolers is how well prepared they are (or not) to apply for college or a job after HS to identify the necessary support and intervention needed. Parents are included in this effort, they are not purposely kept in the dark. That applies to MS and ES as well.

Any time children are asked about their sexual orientation by an adult is crossing their boundaries. We would report a neighbor who would initiate that conversation with our kids. Adults inquiring this information from our kids at school is normalizing this intrusive behavior on children.

School issued computers are linked to each student, so there is no such a thing as anonymity. FCPS IT safeguards didn’t prevent hackers from breaking into their system in the past. Just because you are not fully informed of security issues that threaten the safety of our children doesn’t make them a lie. I’ll leave this here for you:

Well said. Wish FCPS would focus on academics and basic operations and not SEL and promoting identity politics.

It does. How many minutes a day do you think a day/week are spent on SEL lessons? As an elementary school teacher I can tell you it’s significantly less than you guys probably think.

The SEL screener is not the only exposure students have to SEL at school. As a teacher, you may be interested on this video to understand this assertion. You may not agree with everything in it, but at least you’ll understand better why parents disagree, or at least will be prepared to answer their concerns with a sound rebuttal:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcxHJlmszb0

So you link to a homeschool nut to tell a teacher what is happening in a classroom?

This experienced educator uses arguments to rebut how SEL is used in schools. It would be interesting to learn what part of her video you disagree with, and why?

BTW, these are the U.S. Presidents who were homeschooled: John Adams, John Quincy Adams, James Garfield, William, Andrew Jackson, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, James Polk, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, and George Washington.

In case you would like to learn more about homeschoolers, here is a link with many other people from all walks of life who were educated this way. Depending on your areas of interest, you may recognize some of their names:

It doesn't matter.

Make the surveys opt in, not opt out.

Then the dozen or so parents across FCPS who want their kids to list their sexual preferences, experience with different sex acts, depression and mental health, and self identify as a bully, racist or gang member on their school laptops are welcome to sign up their kids for the experience.

Everyone else can use their laptops for math and writing, while keeping their private details private.

Opt in works for the parents who want to share all that private information in an identifiable way, and the rest of the parent who are tired of the intrusion and waste of learning time.

#6 asks if they are straight, gay, bi or unsure

#19 asks if there are lots of chances for students to talk to the teachers one on one

#32 & 33 ask about if there are lots of adults in the neighborhood that the kid can talk to about things.
(For some reason, the answers for this particular set of questions 32&33 have all caps and double exclamation points)

Questions #40- 52 ask about the parents, the parents views on alcohol, smoking, vaping and drugs, and whether the parents yell.

#55-56 ask how often the kid bullies others

#57-59 ask how often the kid carries weapons and what types

#60 asks how often the kid says racist things

#64 asks how often your parent teases, taunts or bullies you

#65 asks how often your parent is physical with you

#66 asks how often the kid has been sexually assaulted

#67 asks how often the kid drives drunk

#68 asks how often the kid texts and drives

#69 asks how often the kid dozes off while driving

#70-71 asks about their gang activity

#72 -73 asks about controlling bf/gf behavior

#74 asks how many times their bf/gf pressures them into sex

#75 asks about abuse from gf/bf

#76 asks how many times the kid has been raped by their bf/gf

#77-80 asks about cyberbullying

#81-84 asks about suicide/suicidal thoughts/
How many attempts at suicide

#85-131 asks specific questions about alcohol use, drug use, vaping, specific drugs used and number of times (this is identifiable and linked to your minor students fcps computer)

#132 Has the minor ever had sex

#133 How old did the minor lose their virginity

#134 how many people has the minor had sex with

#135 how many people has the minor had sex with the past 3 months

#136 Did the minor use drugs when they had sex

#137 Did the minor use a condom the last time they had sex

#138 list the birth control used last time the minor had sex

#139 has the minor had oral sex

(All of these questions are identifiable and linked to your individual minor child.)

Horrible, disgusting, and so inappropriate. This is an example of the survey that should be an opt in, not opt out. Yet we will have to continue to opt out.

We had to opt out in 6th and will def opt out in 8th.

Lies. This wasn't a 6th grade survey.

I didn’t say that that particular one was. But we chose to opt out of the 6th grade FC youth survey too bc we felt that it had inappropriate questions/references related to family and drugs. Things my kid had never even heard of. It also asked if our child was male, female, or non-binary. No thank you.

Male/female/non-binary (ambigious) or other can be the physical sex, or it could be how you identify.

Heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual can be what you are attracted too.
