Is that true? Know last year it seemed like everyone made regionals but I thought with some of the realignment this year, regionals were going to be a 8-team tournament this year - i.e., 8 teams from Region C's 16 teams, 8 teams from Region D's 13 teams, etc. Maybe I have that wrong. Think the state tournament was expanded this year to 8 teams (not just regional winners but also runner ups so maybe I'm confusing with that).

Wow. Kudos to WestPo. I also heard Maryland commit scored 13 of the goals? And he's a D, not an attack.

Congrats to West Po - and congrats to rankings editor who noted LB would have to avoid looking ahead to district finals. Would love to hear if stat above is true - wild if their D-pole scored that many (esp. with no adjustment from LB) but also testament to kid just deciding to take over a game...

I heard the same thing about an 8-team tournament also. LB would still qualify.

He's a great player but definitely did not score 13 goals. Maybe 2 goals and 4 assists.

So what happened to LB?

LB was up 6-2 at half and 13-8 pretty deep into the second half. They started getting sloppy or tired and WP started winning faceoffs and scored a bunch of goals in two quick bursts to tie 13-13. Last minute of regulation was crazy. WP scored with 39 seconds left to go up 1, LB won the face and a pole scored with 23 seconds left to send it to OT. First OT was uneventful. WP sealed it early in the 2nd OT. Pretty crazy LB beat WP 20-4 earlier in the season. Love the playoffs.

Right - think everyone who makes their district semis (Patriot, Concorde, Liberty, Gunston) makes region C & D tourney (which would include LB). But if don't make your district semis this year, thought you might be done for the season. Again could be wrong on that.

Same - I saw McLean post after they won their quarterfinal game that they had qualified for Regionals.

Thanks for the summary!

The past few years, regional qualifying has differed between regions D and C. Region D which is Concorde and Liberty, has just the top 4 teams in each district make regionals. Region C, Patriot and Gunston districts, do an all-in format where every team makes regionals. The only reason region D did an all-in format for regionals last year was because of the shortened season due to Covid and missing the previous season.

Interesting - didn't realize regions could (and actually) do their tournament formats differently. Good to know - thanks for the info!

Think I actually like having the district tourney mean something (versus all-in again for regionals). But I suppose also good that those players can continue their season bit longer.

Any case, looks like Region D tourney will be Madison/Westfields/Oakton/Centreville and then Langley/Yorktown/McLean/W&L(!). Should be great.

Fully agree, district tourney should mean something. Hate how Fairfax County differs in their rules for many things including scheduling regular season games.
