Week 3 - 2022 VA Boys Public 6A "Unofficial" Rankings

1. Robinson (4-0)

Results: Def. #3 Madison 12-5, Def. # 7 Oakton 16-4

Analysis: Convincing win against Madison, blowout win against Oakton. Defense is impressive. Clearly the top team in 6A and will likely stay in this spot for the rest of the season.

Up this week: Alexandria City (3/30), Woodson (4/1)

2. Battlefield (4-0)

Results: Def. Westfield 15-4

Analysis: Overpowered Westfield who was looking fairly strong entering this game. More dominant win against Freedom South Riding than Patriot moves Battlefield slightly ahead of Patriot for now. Luckily, Battlefield and Patriot face off twice this season to decide who is #2.

Up this week: John Champe (3/28)

3. Patriot (4-0)

Results: Def. Freedom South Riding 11-10 (OT), Def. Mountain View

Analysis: Survived against a very tough Freedom South Riding team. Looking forward to the first match with Battlefield on 4/4.

Up this week: Mountain View (3/28), John Champe (3/31)

4. Madison (3-1)

Results: Lost to #1 Robinson 12-5, vs. Def. #10 South County 13-3.

Analysis: Lost to the top dog, but by all accounts played them tough. Easy win against South County. Big matchup against Yorktown is the game of the week.

Up this week: Wakefield (3/28), #4 Yorktown (3/31)

5. Lake Braddock (2-1)

Results: Def. McLean 12-8

Analysis: Got the job done against McLean but not an overly convincing win. Big game with West Potomac later this week.

Up this week: South Lakes (3/29), #9 West Potomac (4/1)

6. Yorktown (1-2)

Results: Def. Centreville 12-5

Analysis: Finally got their first win. Still not sure what to make of this team. Huge week for them facing off against Oakton and Madison.

Up this week: #7 Oakton (3/29), #4 Madison (3/31)

7. West Potomac: (3-0)

Results: Def. Hayfield 12-3, Def. Chantilly 12-6

Analysis: Jumped up this week after Oakton and Langley stumbled a bit. Tough week ahead will show if West Potomac is a contender.

Up this week: Northern Calvert (3/30), #6 Lake Braddock (4/1)

8. Oakton (4-1)

Results: Def. Wakefield 17-2, Def. Woodson 10-9, Lost to #1 Robinson 16-4

Analysis: Three games in a week including having to play Robinson on a back-to-backer was tough. Closer than expected against Woodson and got crushed by Robinson. Still a solid team. Game against Yorktown should be a good one.

Up this week: Yorktown (3/29)

9. Langley (2-1)

Results: Def. Westfield 11-10 (OT)

Analysis: Escaped with a win but needs to learn how to put teams away earlier. Two tough upcoming out of conference matchups against Sidwell Friends and Landon.

Up this week: Sidwell Friends (3/31)

10. Alexandria City (6-0)

Results: Def. Washington-Liberty 8-6,, Def. South County 6-5, Def. Mount Vernon 17-1

Analysis: Haven't faced must competition and maybe not a true contender, but hard to leave a team that is 6-0 out, at least this week. They face the #1 team this week and their stay in the top ten might not last long.

Up this week: Robinson (3/30)

Dropped out: South County (1-3) – Lost to Alexandria City 6-5, Lost to Madison 13-3

Others Receiving Votes: West Springfield (3-0), Westfield (3-2), Chantilly (3-2)

Fixed a couple of my own typos.

Thank you...well done!

Excellent summary and overall rankings this week (and good to have dedicated thread again!). Definitely hard to argue with anything above - pretty spot on after last week's action. Robinson absolutely looked impressive this week against two good teams. Oakton did have it tough with Friday night game and then Saturday vs. Robinson but Robinson clearly strongest team on list. Madison/Yorktown will be great game this week - and will be interesting to see how Langley does vs. couple private school powers. Thanks again for rankings!

Yorktown/Oakton was great game/close at halftime (tied or 1-goal) but opened up bit in 2nd half. Good result for Westfield. And have to believe West Spr score was incorrect, though that would be impressive result for Marshall(!)

I watched West Springfield game for a bit and West Springfield had 4 or 5 goals to none for Marshall so the score on Laxnumbers is wrong at least.

Yorktown still seems to be pretty good despite the slow start. Game against Madison on Thursday should be great.

South County is 1-4 now with a tough schedule ahead so it may be a long season for them.

Yeah I generally don't like these "website" algorithm rankings. They're just running some mathematical thing based on preseason expectations, final scores (which can be misleading), unknown strength of teams etc.

I much prefer our "Unofficial" Rankings here which are semi-crowd-sourced by local folks who are actually watching these games. Plus our intrepid reporter who includes upcoming matchups and analysis on the week prior and week ahead. Great stuff!
