| W-L parent here. Notwithstanding the final score (11-3 for Langley), I thought our team played pretty well. Obviously I don't know what the Langley injury situation was, but our team was missing some key players and had a few others playing at much less than 100%. I don't think that even with everyone W-L would have had any significant chance to win (I think Langley played a lot of guys at the end who don't get a lot of playing time), but I was happy with how our guys performed. Langley had a face-off guy who was amazing. I think W-L won one face-off all game. |
| That was a lot of goals by Yorktown. Heard from a Mclean supporter it started 2-0 and Mclean was looking good. Looks like Yorktown got things together. |
| I heard it was 9-6 at half. If that is true, Yorktown must’ve just lit it up after halftime. |
| Same score Yorktown beat McLean earlier this season. |
| Centreville 8 Westfield 5 |
| Is there a regionals bracket posted anywhere? |

Battlefield back to #2 like they should have stayed all along. Really, you are concerned about some made up rankings? You lose you move down you win you go up. |

Week 9 - 2022 VA Boys Public 6A “Unofficial” Rankings[u]
1. Robinson (17-0) Results: Def. Fairfax 21-2, Def. Woodson 17-3, Def. West Potomac 15-4 Analysis: We’ve run out of accolades for this team as they cruised through the district tournament and claimed the Patriot district title. We didn’t get the expected rematch with Lake Braddock, but Robinson wasted no time in dispatching West Potomac. Robinson will be the #1 seed in the Regional tournament and may not have a game closer than 5 goals at this rate. Up this week: Regional Tournament 2. Battlefield (13-1) Results: Def. Freedom 12-3, Def. Patriot 5-3 Analysis: Defense wins championships and Battlefield’s defense is really good. Holding Patriot to just three goals, Battlefield took Round 3 of what will almost certainly be a five-round matchup between these Western county powers. While it is a bit repetitive to play the same team over and over, each of the three games so far have been great contests decided by no more than three goals. Battlefield and Patriot should see each other again in the Regional Finals and again in the State Semifinals. With a defense this good, Battlefield may be the only team capable of slowing down Robinson’s high-powered offense and testing the prohibitive favorite Rams. Up this week: Regional Tournament 3. Patriot (12-3) Results: Def. John Champe 14-3, Lost to Battlefield 5-3 Analysis: Lost another close one to their biggest rival. Patriot is averaging 13.4 goals per game this season, but against Battlefield has averaged only 5.7 goals in three contests. The Pioneers need to figure out how to ramp up the offensive production against Battlefield’s stingy defense, but that is easier said than done as Battlefield is giving up only 3.5 goals per game all season and has not given up more than 9 goals in a game. Patriot should get their next chance in the Regional championship game unless they let their guard down against Freedom. Up this week: Regional Tournament 4. Yorktown (12-3) Results: Def. Wakefield 17-3, Def. McLean 18-5 Analysis: Two easy wins for Yorktown. The rematch with McLean ended with the same result, a 18-5 victory for the Patriots. Huge rematch with Langley for the Liberty district championship. It should be a battle. After Lake Braddock’s loss to West Potomac, Madison’s 11-6 loss to Lake Braddock and head to head loss to Yorktown seems a little worse. Yorktown makes a small move up but the rematch with Langley on Tuesday will help clear things up. Up this week: District Championship @ Langley (5/17) 5. Madison (12-3) Results: Def. Oakton 10-2 Analysis: Madison handled Oakton easily and now faces a surprising Centreville team in the district championship. Madison beat Centreville 14-2 earlier in the season and this game should not be that close. Expect the Warhawks to coast to the trophy and enter regionals as the #1 or #2 seed. Madison’s drop was less about its play and more based on a reconsideration of prior factors based on Lake Braddock’s loss. Up this week: District Championship vs. Centreville (5/17) 6. Langley (9-3) Results: Def. Washington-Liberty 11-3 Analysis: Langley easily handled W-L to set up the rematch with Yorktown that many expected. Can Langley control the pace again and frustrate Yorktown, or does Yorktown right the ship and get revenge? Expect a close and fiery game. Up this week: District Championship vs. Yorktown (5/17) 7. Lake Braddock (13-3) Results: Def. West Springfield 14-5, lost to West Potomac 15-14 (2OT) Analysis: Lake Braddock cruised past West Springfield, but maybe overlooked West Potomac when eyeing a potential rematch with Robinson. Instead, Lake Braddock was sent packing, coughing up a 13-8 second half lead to fall to the Wolverines in double overtime. Lake Braddock should still get a decent seed in the Regional tournament with time to regroup before some tough potential matchups ahead. Up this week: Regional Tournament 8. West Potomac: (12-5) Results: Def. Woodson 12-10 Analysis: Two overtime wins! Skated past South Country, then shocked Lake Braddock with a stunning come from behind victory. Impressive performance after a 20-4 loss to Lake Braddock earlier in the season. Completely overpowered by Robinson, but all of the lower teams either have been or would be steamrolled by Robinson as well. Although head-to-head matters and West Potomac won the most recent contest, Lake Braddock is the better team and wins this matchup at least 75% of the time. We may see this rematch in regionals as West Potomac and Lake Braddock advance and could face each other in a semifinal matchup. Up this week: Regional Tournament 9. Freedom South Riding (10-5) Results: Lost to Battlefield 12-3 Analysis: We still don’t know what to make of this team – their schedule is pretty cake except for Battlefield and Patriot, and they have now lost five times to those two teams. More importantly, their losses to Battlefield and Patriot are getting worse as the season progresses, so Freedom doesn’t seem able to take the steps needed to get to the next level. Seems certain that Battlefield and Patriot will be the two teams moving on from Region B to the state tournament unless Freedom can take it up a notch. Up this week: Regional Tournament 10. Centreville (10-5) Results: Def. South Lakes 6-4, Def. Westfield 8-5 Analysis: The Wildcats make their first appearance in the rankings late in the season. No one was talking about Centreville but they snuck into the championship game by barely escaping South Lakes and then avenging an earlier-season loss to Westfield. Centreville is athletic and aggressive but doesn’t have the skills or discipline to hang with Madison, who beat Centreville 14-2 earlier this season. Up this week: District Championship vs. Madison (5/17) Others Receiving Votes: Westfield (8-7), Oakton (8-8), Woodson (9-7), McLean (8-8), Alexandria City (10-5) |

*UPDATED WITH REGION C PLAYOFF SCHEDULE*
Week 9 - 2022 VA Boys Public 6A “Unofficial” Rankings 1. Robinson (17-0) Results: Def. Fairfax 21-2, Def. Woodson 17-3, Def. #9 West Potomac 15-4 Analysis: We’ve run out of accolades for this team as they cruised through the district tournament and claimed the Patriot district title. We didn’t get the expected rematch with Lake Braddock, but Robinson wasted no time in dispatching West Potomac. Robinson will be the #1 seed in the Regional tournament and may not have a game closer than 5 goals at this rate. We like the idea of a condense regional tournament with not all teams advancing – the upcoming “playoff” game against 1-9 Mount Vernon should not ever happen. Robinson could score 30+ goals if it wanted to. Up this week: vs. Mount Vernon (5/17) 2. Lake Braddock should still get a decent seed in the Regional tournament with time to regroup before some tough potential matchups ahead. Lake Braddock should beat Lewis by 15+ goals. Up this week: vs. Lewis (5/17) 8. West Potomac: (12-5) Results: Def. Woodson 12-10 Analysis: Two overtime wins! | Great breakdown! Looks like there at two teams that are the cream of the crop and then 4 other teams (3-6) seeing how far they can go and if they can give the top 2 a game. Seems like Battlefield has figured out how to play Patriot and slow them down. |
