CogAT score is here

They will send in-pool letters but not announce pool scores since it can differ by school now (this is per our AART). That said, the pool is the lowest of the school-based pool OR the county-wide pool. Above 132 on NNAT likely means in-pool.

I'm still confused by this new school-by-school cutoff. Does that mean that there will be two admissions, to LLIV and to the center? Or does that mean that any student admitted to Level IV can move from a "lower number cutoff" school to a "higher number cutoff" school (or the center school) and still be in AAP?

They seem to be planning for the time when center schools go away entirely, but that hasn't happened yet and won't for at least the next few years, if not longer.

It's just about who is in-pool, that's all. That just determines who the school will ultimately make a packet for. The central committee will still review that packet (for now) and it will proceed as normal. It just slightly widens the net - and makes a little more work for 2nd grade teachers and AARTs - for who gets screened.

There will not be 2 different admissions. Eventually they do plan on every IV being local, evaluated by a local committee, but not. If a kid from a lower cut-off school moves to a higher one (or they both wind up at the same middle school or something), the AAP designation stands.

Agreed and for the people who seem concerned about the lower local cut off thing... it isn't going to be something like 115. It will likely be in the 128-131 range that in most schools would have those students parent referred anyway.

The point of local norms is that in some of the poorer schools, parents weren't doing parent referrals for their kids with scores in the 120-131 range. The school based norms will capture some of those kids and make sure that they're at least reviewed by the central panel.

Exactly. People here seem to think it's going to give some advantage to less qualified students, but all it's doing is ensuring qualified kids get considered regardless of how involved their parents are, which is particularly important for schools that have more parents who don't speak English or who don't have the time to learn about these programs because they're working multiple jobs.

The report on the AAP program actually suggested moving to a blanket lower threshold and then removing the possibility for parent referrals. I can't remember if the report gave a number, but I've seen some districts automatically consider any kids who score 95th percentile.

I wish they would just post the scores.

I wish that too!
Looks like we will get the score by Christmas time.

It’s common sense…Dec 15 is the deadline for referrals. We still don’t have the score. So the best guess is anytime between Dec 16 to Dec 31.

DP. I have no idea when the results will come out. Years ago, when our oldest was in 2nd grade, we got the Cogat scores on Wednesday when the referral date was Friday.

So I expect that we'll see them sometime in the next 7 days. I won't be shocked if they are posted later than that but I haven't counted them out yet.

Thanks 😊 If we get the scores before Dec 15, that will be great!

PP who was trying to figure out what reason there was to think scores would be out after the deadline. We also got my oldest's scores before the deadline by just a few days. That was back when the deadline for parent referral was still in January.

No clue how correct it will be, but our general email announcing the CogAT had some answers to frequently asked questions and one answer indicated we'd get the scores by winter break.

Apparently Notice 2401, if anyone can find it, has the full timeline for screening for AAP. I got that from this: https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/C7WNMJ5CD260/$file/Brabrand%20Briefing%20-%20October%2018%2C%202021.pdf

Brabrand put out more information about the use of local building norms here: [url=https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/C7TSU8744C3E/$file/2021%20Oct%20-%20local%20norm%20expansion%20briefing.pdf

If you care about FCPS, there are often interesting points in the Brabrand Briefings - http://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=C4PSRZ6EBC71

OK, so here's the timeline for this year's AAP referral process. It's a unified timeline, so you see private schools, the fall screening window, all of it. In there is a buried piece of info saying that internal scores for CoGAT and NNAT are/were being done in November and December and reported out.
