I guess “be kind to others” is political now.

Freaking Republicans ruining everything for the rest of us.

Still waiting to hear what the republicans have to say about SATs and overcrowding. I'm guessing it will be awhile

I think the Republicans are talking about academics over social issues. Reminder: it is the SB who has focused on the social issues and made dramatic changes in the way schools work.

For example: biological boys will now be in FLE with girls. How does this make sense? Maybe, just have the trans kids skip this part.

If you read the new policy--teachers are no longer supposed to have boys and girls line up separately. Sure, you can say "everyone in red" get here and "blue" there. But, it is a ridiculous requirement and really unnecessary.

It seems that, in FCPS, the whole structure is being transformed to bow to the Trans community.

But, nothing holds a candle to keeping information from parents.

Source? Do you have any link to their plans?

Read the regulation. It was linked on the first page of this thread.

I see nothing about academics over social issues there, maybe you can link to the section that illustrates "the Republicans are talking about academics over social issues."

The Republican candidate for the newly redistricted Springfield District, Debra Tisler, has a strong education excellence focused platform. She stresses literacy, improved accurate grading standards, parent and community involvement, FAPE compliance, school safety, teacher support, and parent advocy, to summarize.

She is a parent advocate with a background in special ed. She is a former elementary school teacher with a masters in special ed. She is a FCPS parent. She is an excellent choice for school board.

I love in this district. I looked at her page and saw she is endorsed by Moms For America. I looked at their website, read some of their press releases. I could have stopped there but I looked at the MomTalks. I’ll take a hard pass on this candidate.

She's a bit pissy because the school board sued her. But when you get passed that, she's not objectionable. She may not be able to work well with other people, but that's not a big requirement for the school board anyway.

I won’t vote for her. She’s endorsed by this group:

Ewwww. Can’t believe these people are reproducing.

Get used to it until something besides male and female can reproduce. Ironic

Automatically opting in kids to the ridiculous SEL screener goes against the new rules.

Last year I opted my child out, yet SIS records were not changed for some time to reflect my request. I had to keep calling the school and sending emails to reflect the change until it got done. However, when the first screener took place, my child came home and told me that he was not given heads up to leave the room and the screener was in his school laptop. My neighbor told me that the same thing happened to both of their kids, though one of them ended up completing the screener because when he asked his teacher, he was encouraged to do it.

This year I was able to change it in the computer, yet I still sent an SEL Opt-out form to the school electronically indicating that I was requesting for my child to be removed from the SEL screener and any other activities that derived from it. Unfortunately, I am aware that my latter request won’t be granted as SEL is already inserted in every aspect of their day at school, including the academic.

Moreover, as school is about to begin, we have had long conversations with my children about the importance of striving to do their best at school, being kind, and being respectful to everyone - particularly to staff, yet that the only information they are required to provide during any test or any questionnaires is their name and their student ID. The rest of the information required electronically of them, such as race and sexual orientation, is irrelevant to their academic experience at school. Most importantly, the latter not of anyone’s business, particularly strangers. While we can’t control what our kids will be exposed to at school, we still can talk to them about their obligations and their rights at school, especially when it comes to proper boundaries.

When opted out it shouldn’t even be available in Schoology. If it was it shouldn’t have been.
The students don’t leave the room though.

As long as the activist group FCPSPride and other progressives are running the SB, they will not do anything that the state wants. This is nothing but politics.

They are having rallies for this and their proponents are gleeful after Reid's email.

They are protecting kids instead of using them as political pawns.

Protecting kids from their parents. Despite the harm that this has caused.

Yes, protecting kids from their harmful parents.

Yes. Children know if their parents are supportive or not.

Hard to teach STEM if kids are milking themselves because they have a-hole controlling parents.
