Still waiting to hear what the republicans have to say about SATs and overcrowding. I'm guessing it will be awhile

I think the Republicans are talking about academics over social issues. Reminder: it is the SB who has focused on the social issues and made dramatic changes in the way schools work.

For example: biological boys will now be in FLE with girls. How does this make sense? Maybe, just have the trans kids skip this part.

If you read the new policy--teachers are no longer supposed to have boys and girls line up separately. Sure, you can say "everyone in red" get here and "blue" there. But, it is a ridiculous requirement and really unnecessary.

It seems that, in FCPS, the whole structure is being transformed to bow to the Trans community.

But, nothing holds a candle to keeping information from parents.

Source? Do you have any link to their plans?

Read the regulation. It was linked on the first page of this thread.

I see nothing about academics over social issues there, maybe you can link to the section that illustrates "the Republicans are talking about academics over social issues."

The Republican candidate for the newly redistricted Springfield District, Debra Tisler, has a strong education excellence focused platform. She stresses literacy, improved accurate grading standards, parent and community involvement, FAPE compliance, school safety, teacher support, and parent advocy, to summarize.

She is a parent advocate with a background in special ed. She is a former elementary school teacher with a masters in special ed. She is a FCPS parent. She is an excellent choice for school board.

In 1996 I started my education BA and was told that. It isn’t new. I’ve been teaching since 2000 and have never had all the boys and all the girls do anything.

I love in this district. I looked at her page and saw she is endorsed by Moms For America. I looked at their website, read some of their press releases. I could have stopped there but I looked at the MomTalks. I’ll take a hard pass on this candidate.

She's a bit pissy because the school board sued her. But when you get passed that, she's not objectionable. She may not be able to work well with other people, but that's not a big requirement for the school board anyway.

I don’t think we need another school board member whose primary focus is special ed.

It is a survey about very intimate topics given to students with the data collected and maintained by a third party for profit company with distant ties to facebook. The survey and results are not private, as the data is tied to the specific minor FCPS student and their school issued computers. Basically it allows the private company to monetize intimate student information, which is a complete violation of their rights and data privacy.

FCPS has chosen to make this invasive survey automatic, unless the parents opt out.

Here is the opt out link for APS. You can also click through to the website of company who does the test, download a copy and decide what you think of this for your child.

Where is she getting the money for FAPE compliance and how does that gel with teacher support?

Anonymous wrote:Ok, real honest question for those pushing back on Reid's email--Let's say there is a child in 6th grade classroom at your elementary school who has fully socially transitioned from male to female. By all outward appearances, this child looks female. Parents are on board, have signed whatever is required for their child to be addressed by a chosen name and she/her pronouns. The child is not disruptive, asks for no special treatment beyond the norm for any child in the room, and does not engage in any outward advocacy.

In this scenario, what do you see as the problem? What is the concern with that child simply being accepted as they are and being treated like everyone else?

I ask this because I feel like this issue is so often framed as an abstract idea as opposed to being about real children sitting in real classrooms being taught by real teachers. I'm trying to imagine what it would look like to deny that child's (and by extension, their parents') right to be the person they believe themselves to be. How is that less disruptive to the educational environment you say you are focused on that simply accepting the, as they are and focusing on learning?

Do you know any sixth graders like this? "Socially transitioned?" Are you familiar with sixth graders? Do you realize that their bodies are rapidly changing? A sixth grade trans girl who is "socially transitioned" is going to begin to have a deepening voice. Depending on his maturity, he/she is going to have body hair begin to grow and changes in his genitalia.

You have described something that exists only very, very rarely. This is not reality.

NP:

- under the bolded part of the scenario, the Virginia DOE policy would be to treat that child exactly like the parents specified, pronouns and new name.

Why is the DOE such a problem? (hint: it’s not a problem. It is fair and respectful).

FCPS needs to stop this ridiculous tantrum and follow state guidelines.

They're following state law. The law explicitly allows districts to have more comprehensive policies than the VDOE model and one of the the criteria is "6. Protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information;" FCPS's guidelines go a step further than VDOE to protect parent policy, as envisioned and permitted by the legislature. I'm sorry you don't like the law, maybe you should lobby to change it.

As long as the activist group FCPSPride and other progressives are running the SB, they will not do anything that the state wants. This is nothing but politics.

They are having rallies for this and their proponents are gleeful after Reid's email.

Protecting kids from their parents. Despite the harm that this has caused.
