New R has no sex appeal. Shall see how/if they successfully change that.

Why does she need to have sex appeal?

Because she had amazing sexual tension with her uncle before. So I hope the acting and actors continue to display that. Or just focus on the killings.

Not impressed with the new actress. Leana was very pretty, too bad she was incinerated.

I’m confused about the dragon and fire rules. The dark haired children aren’t liked by the dragons because they’re only Targaryen on one side? Dani used to be able to put her hands in flames, why can’t R do that?

Don't the dark haired bastards also have dragons? It is Alicent and Viserys younger son that hasn't been chosen by a dragon. Hightowers are not Valyrian either, so Alicent's children are also half NOT Valyrian, so they are just as likely to have been not chosen by dragons.

Rhaenyra’s sons have dragons because, as heir, she was prioritized for receiving dragon eggs to put in their cradles. You can get a dragon in other ways (Laena claimed Vhaghar as a teen) but I guess that’s the easiest way to do it.

That’s why she offered Syrax’s next clutch of dragon eggs to Alicent as a sweetener to the marriage deal.

Laena mentioned to one of her daughters that not all dragon eggs hatch, so even if an egg is placed in the cradle, it doesn't guarantee you a dragon. That's why Aemond doesn't have a dragon yet, since his egg never hatched. So, a Targaryen either has a dragon born with them, or they have to earn the loyalty of an an existing dragon.

It was mentioned in the episode that Aemond didn’t have an egg in his cradle.

To answer the dragon questions

1. You have to be from a dragon riding family to be able to ride a dragon. The Targaryens are the only dragon riding family in Westeros at the moment but there were many other families in Old Valyria that could do it before the Doom. Of these groups, only the Targaryens migrated to Westeros though. (The Velayrons also came from Valyria but they were never dragon riders).

2. It doesn’t matter if a Targaryen has dark hair or blonde hair, they will be able to ride a dragon if they have the genes and bravery for it. (Not every Targaryen claims a dragon and some are scared of it. GRRM hints that Vicerys is one such Targaryen. He only rode Balerion for the last year of that dragon’s life then never claimed another one and he talks about Balerion as if he were scared of him). Rhaenyra’s sons with Harwin have dark hair but they are all dragon riders. Jon Snow turns out to be another dark haired dragon riding Targaryen. There are others in Fire and Blood.

3. The ability of the Valyrian families to learn how to ride dragons had something to do with blood magic, although this has never been fully explained.

4. This is why, when the Dragons in Westeros went extinct, magic in that part of the world died out. Magic is still being practiced in Asshai which is why it has a sinister, shadowy reputation in Westeros. We don’t hear much about this place in the books though. Rumors abound but no one knows anything for sure because it’s a dangerous place to visit if you’re not a practitioner of magic. This is where Melisandre comes from.

5. When Dany’s dragons are born, magic comes back to Westeros.

6. GRRM has said Dany is the only fireproof Targaryen (part of the newborn magic). Other Targaryen’s have a high tolerance for heat though.

I think you hit the nail on the head- it was not that hard.

So he takes care of himself (or has help) and they find a way to inseminate rhaenyra. It would have worked.

Works for horses.

Given it took so long to figure out Joffrey was not Baratheon’s kid, and years for people to question R’s boys, I’m not sure this world understands reproduction and genetics as well as they could.

People probably put 2 and 2 together but to question the validity of the King’s heirs is treason. I’d rather keep my mouth shut than go running all around kings landing blabbing about how Bobby B’s sons don’t look anything like him.

In the book she died (not by fire) after giving birth to a horribly deformed child. I really wonder if they are playing down the fact that incest has consequences. Apparently Viserys and Daemon’s mother and father were also brother/sister as were their grandparents, plus a few generations before that, the original Aegon married both his sisters. Plus Laena and Daemon were cousins. That’s a pretty big ick factor for me.

No the Targs are allll about incest. They do it to keep the dragon riding ability strong and located only within their own house (See: the problem here with some of the Velaryons having their own dragons). Vicerys was married to his first cousin (Aemma, the woman who died via c-section). R&D eventually get together and have kids. Alicent marries her son Aegon to her daughter Helaena. Aegon’s daughter marries Rhaenyra’s son after the war and that’s how the Targaryen line continues down to Dany.

They truly don’t care about incest, lol.

Aegon’s daughter marries Rhaenyra’s son after the war but that’s not the line Dany came from.

OMG I have stop reading this thread since some of you are determined to spoil the show for the rest of us!!!

I want to like this show so badly. I really do. But I have yet to find one single character that I even kind of like. The king wouldn’t survive as king in the GOT era. He’s such a pushover and ineffective. No one respects him because he doesn’t deserve respect. If Alicent were around during GOT times she probably would have gotten her face smashed in a few times while speaking out of turn. I’ve given up on this show.

Do you watch the behind the scenes clips? The actor who plays him says he's playing a "bad king but a good person" or something like that. It's intentional. I assume it's setting up a conflict that will need to be resolved.

Yes, they are spoilers! The show should stand alone. The only spoilers discussed should be GOT but you don’t care. Thanks for nothing.

Wow - instead of having 4 sets of great-grandparents, Daenerys only has 1 set.
