Don't the dark haired bastards also have dragons? It is Alicent and Viserys younger son that hasn't been chosen by a dragon. Hightowers are not Valyrian either, so Alicent's children are also half NOT Valyrian, so they are just as likely to have been not chosen by dragons. [/quote]

Rhaenyra’s sons have dragons because, as heir, she was prioritized for receiving dragon eggs to put in their cradles. You can get a dragon in other ways (Laena claimed Vhaghar as a teen) but I guess that’s the easiest way to do it.

Laena mentioned to one of her daughters that not all dragon eggs hatch, so even if an egg is placed in the cradle, it doesn't guarantee you a dragon. That's why Aemond doesn't have a dragon yet, since his egg never hatched. So, a Targaryen either has a dragon born with them, or they have to earn the loyalty of an an existing dragon. [/quote]
