Agree with posts on SSSAS on hurting themselves by not subbing and not giving younger kids opportunities. Most schools will at least swing their better younger players so they get the benefit of practicing with the varsity. |
Colleges recruit from club. HS matters none at all, other than the possibility that the coach is connected and can put in a good word. |
True that recruiting is from club. But you will not be playing at your peak come summer tournaments playing JV lacrosse games and practicing with kids who are playing for sports credit. Clubs don’t have many practices and they assume you are coming out of spring season battle tested. And the high school you attend actually helps you get on the best club teams becuse they know you are training and playing with the best. |
No and neither is the team culture. The girls who don’t get to contribute never really feel a part of the team. There is no support among players. Many are bonded by misery. |
Have you seen recruiting profiles of girls from a top club? The list of accolades is largely from the high school team. Lists whether you were on varsity, how many years, were you a starter, how many goals, turnovers, what recognition you received. Do you not think every girls from SR isn’t highlighting they played on a three time ISL champion team? Some of your highlight reel comes from high school. It does matter . |
Before summer tournaments players being recruited are actually instructed send out their Spring high school highlight reels to the coaches of schools they are interested in. Good luck to benchwarmers on that. And no a reel isn’t decisive but it’s a part of the process and if it wasn’t important your club wouldn’t tell you to do it. |
I'm assuming you're a gator parent and are still high on the W in the championship a few days ago. Congrats on your daughters success but don't let it get to your head enough to where you feel you need to callout teenage fans! |
Blow me |
The refs yesterday were something to note for sure. No doubt KJ has some effect on the area refs. |
Not a Saints parent but a lot of talk about not subbing. During my years watching my kids in the ISL I’ve never seen anyone sub consistently, not Saints, Visi, SR, or Potomac. Seen some middy fliers, but I’m pretty sure Saints does that too.
So who subs consistently to prevent fatigue and not just as punishment for a bad shot or turnover? |
Not only does the highschool you play for matter, the connections you make with the head coach there (assuming she is well known in the lax world) are second to none. The film is another part of it |
I think the biggest difference between SSSAS and Potomac yesterday was the fact that their respective coaches left the players with a hot hand on and subbed off the contributing middys to get new personnel on. |
Potomac and to a lesser extent Visi, doesn’t have the depth that an SR or SSSAS has. So they don’t sub as much. They have some top tier offensive stars that at least SSSA doesn’t have. So SSSA should be using their strength which is their depth. |
SSSA is a team full of attackers and defenders- a problem they didn’t prepare for coming down the road. Have a bench full of athletic girls that could have been trained for that a year or two ago. |
Looks like players at the IAAM schools area able to get recruited just fine, even if they don't get to play Varsity until they get to Junior year. SSSAS players have the same argument. Helps if the team wins their conference or state and stays nationally ranked. |
