Agree. As a democrat who grew up in North Carolina, the country really came together in empathy for those who lost homes and businesses. It's very sad to know that apparently the only real Americans are those who live in red states. Those in blue states don't merit our compassion.

Of course there is compassion. There’s also recognition that there were colossal policy errors in that democrat run state that contributed to this.

Ignoring flood zone warnings in red states is not a colossal policy error?

Whataboutism isn’t an argument. Start a new thread if you want to debate flood zones which affect both red and blue states. This is a thread about California.

Would you agree that California can keep all the money it sends to the federal government that is redistributed to the taker red states? If so you’ve got a deal. California will self-flagellate about its “policy errors” as much as you like, and California will also get to keep all of its money that is currently taken and sent to red states. I’m sure both MAGA and Californians would be happy to take that deal.

Deal for what? I’m not a Californian and this is their mess to deal with. I’m just pointing out that there are costs associated with flawed priorities, not filling your water reservoirs and not allowing insurance companies to price out risk.

First off, the reservoirs were not empty; in fact they were at normal levels after years of drought. And what policy, exactly, do you think is contributing to this natural disaster?

Well, I'm not the only one who noticed the heartless Republican response to the LA fires.

Quote from Pete Wilson, a Republican:
“I can’t think of a president, Republican or Democrat, that has tried to inject partisan politics into an ongoing disaster relief effort,” said Dan Schnur, who served as a communications strategist for former California GOP Gov. Pete Wilson and now teaches at USC, UC Berkeley and Pepperdine.

The point was that there are criticisms to be made of politicians in both states. But making them while people are still in danger is tacky.

There really needs to be consequences for you lefties being hard headed, stupid, and bringing everyone down through your lowest common denominator mentality.

I don't mean political consequences.

I really do hate my fellow countrycommunists.

So long as no money from California flows to red states, we can probably make a deal here. But the outstretched hands demanding California money while at the same time claiming superiority is too much.
Why do people waste time on this scenario of controlling what happens to federal tax dollars from/to a particular state ? Once Federal taxes are paid, the money is pooled and spent as dictated by the various Federal programs. There is no practical way to prevent federal taxes paid by Californians from going to Texas or Fla, or vice Versa.

If CA wants to keep more tax dollars, the only practical thing they can do is raise their own state taxes. And, I think that is exactly what should happen here. They can vote to have a surcharge tax increase for a certain number of years to pay for this. Make it extremely progressive, so the rich pay most of it. The rich are going to benefit when the rebuild is complete.

The point is: stop acting like you hate California SO MUCH when they are creating the prosperity that funds your food stamps.

Republicans are desperately trying to deflect from the fact that the primary cause is climate change. Not lesbian firefighters, not undefined “woke” policies - climate change.

Well, that and the fact that their "soon to be" President is coming up with new excuses every day why he's not actually going to do anything he promised.

Egg prices are growing every day (in part because regulation policies were loosened which allowed bird flu to take hold.)
Trump isn't going to bring them down.

Trump has no plan on how to create more jobs for working class people.

All Trump did last time was cut taxes for the rich, and appoint a Supreme Court that made abortion illegal.

The climate has been changing since most of North America was covered by an ice sheet 10000 years ago. And guess what, it’s going to keep changing, regardless of how many people switch to electric cars.

Human caused climate change is settled fact.

I guess the LA Times should have endorsed Harris.

Do you agree with the point the article made or not?

Seems like you're just using whataboutism to avoid the conversation.

Yes of course. Those early humans were serious polluters to create enough greenhouse gases to melt all that ice, well before the industrial age.

What's the worst that could happen if we made a concerted effort to minimize human pollution? Oh right, some billionaires wouldn't be able to buy another vacation house. Oh well.
