Oh California

If people are concerned about water, tell this administration to make a plan* since they want to be l”leaders” in AI — which uses a ton of water.

All those burned houses will now not be able to be taxed for what the houses were worth pre fire -a house that was millions of dollars is not worth a lot when it is burned to ground. Will take years to get permits and rebuild. This fire is going to hurt people not even initially affected because this loss will affect all sorts of programs with funding. California is notoriously difficult with building permits. There will be zero appetite to pay more taxes to make up for this and progressives will continue to be blamed. Hoping there are lessons learned but have yet to hear any Democrats agree that you have to prioritize people over little fish. You have to allow fire stops and brush clearing. There has to be a way to have balance. Also all those fire fighters fired for. it taking Covid Vax need to be hired back asap. Also need to allow help with trucks to go directly to fighting fires and not have to do emissions testing first. Wishing the best for California!!!

There are plenty of places have large fire risks Arizona, New Mexico etc.

I don't understand why Californians built stick houses with tar paper rooves. Would it have been too expensive to build adobe style houses. This seems like a building codes problem. Brick with slate rooves maybe. Wouldn't that be cheaper than insuring something that the insurance company said is basically going to burn down. Oh and no bushes in your yards. No grass just rocks and cacti. When I lived in New Mexico everyone had a soaker for their house.

Just following up house soaker:

OP should not speak about things they don't know about.

I have a friend who works in real estate in that area. They said that people are either rebuilding (and looking for a place to rent while doing so), or selling the lots which have sold very quickly, some for above asking price. My friend is super busy both finding rentals for people and buying/selling. They are making $$.

https://abc7.com/post/eaton-fire-altadenas-fi...lls-550000/15890358/

Realtor Brock Harris says he listed the lot at 95 West Calaveras Street for about $450,000 and ended up selling it for $550,000.

"We got a ton of calls, like 20 to 30 a day," he said. "We ended up getting about a dozen offers and the price got bid up way over asking."

Palisades and Malibu will rebuild quickly. It’s too good a location and too wealthy to be abandoned.

I really don’t think so. Ca has a lot of building regulations and red tape. Finding a contractor to rebuild your house will take a long time - too much demand.

So much red tape that now government Newsome is moving in to take the land for cheap, cheap, cheap!

Anyone surprised?

Hopefully, the new houses will take advantage of new fire resistant materials that were not available when the original houses were built.

Please republicans and Trump have created so much new red tape, bureaucracy and unfunded mandates in the BBb they can never again complain about this stuff,

How many of those houses were adobe, brick, or other non-flammable materials ceramic rooves?

What exactly what were they doing with their codes? Ah I know, just making sure Mexicans didn't move in next door.

There it is, Californians worried about "good school areas" while their houses are burning to the grounds and they have no place to live.

No new efforts to fight the modern fire with the knowledge we have to track when these fires can and will happen. Moving forward Democrats need to move on some issues. There has to be organized burns and fire stops etc. There also needs to be focusing first on people and then conservation. People first. It may not be perfect but what has just happened cannot happen again. I actually think the fire chief is well qualified and she needs to have the resources to get everything done. With the caveat that she is in favor of hiring back the firefighters and collecting brush and finding a plan to work with the water department. If the focus on just CYA then nothing will improve.

lol really you maga types think back burning is bad and fire stops are government regulations. Sorry this is caused by republicans constant attacks on rules and regulations. This is what you get.

So the brilliant Democrat leaders in California wanted to do the right thing, but the hoards of Republicans in California used their political might to overwhelm these earnest Democrats, & prevented the Democrats from doing things that would have prevented the fires? That’s what I hate about California…the Republicans run everything & make all the decisions. It’s like the Democrats aren’t even there. You never see them, & never hear from them.
