Oh California

Something that is not being discussed is this mess will create millions upon millions in property tax loss to LA County. All those burned houses will now not be able to be taxed for what the houses were worth pre fire -a house that was millions of dollars is not worth a lot when it is burned to ground. Will take years to get permits and rebuild. This fire is going to hurt people not even initially affected because this loss will affect all sorts of programs with funding. California is notoriously difficult with building permits. There will be zero appetite to pay more taxes to make up for this and progressives will continue to be blamed. Hoping there are lessons learned but have yet to hear any Democrats agree that you have to prioritize people over little fish. You have to allow fire stops and brush clearing. There has to be a way to have balance. Also all those fire fighters fired for. it taking Covid Vax need to be hired back asap. Also need to allow help with trucks to go directly to fighting fires and not have to do emissions testing first. Wishing the best for California!!!

I grew up in California. There have always been fire stops, mandatory clearing of brush around rural properties, and the reservoirs were full for the last several years due to above average rainfall. But Conservatives don’t like to hear that.

They got rid of them sadly. There has been a lot of change in last ten years. No new efforts to fight the modern fire with the knowledge we have to track when these fires can and will happen. Moving forward Democrats need to move on some issues. There has to be organized burns and fire stops etc. There also needs to be focusing first on people and then conservation. People first. It may not be perfect but what has just happened cannot happen again. I actually think the fire chief is well qualified and she needs to have the resources to get everything done. With the caveat that she is in favor of hiring back the firefighters and collecting brush and finding a plan to work with the water department. If the focus on just CYA then nothing will improve.

lol really you maga types think back burning is bad and fire stops are government regulations. Sorry this is caused by republicans constant attacks on rules and regulations. This is what you get.

Careful. There will be a full public accounting of whether the reservoirs were full and whether brush was cleared in the wooded areas. If you want to make bold statements like "the reservoirs were full" when even California officials are saying otherwise, it's going to look bad. The left cannot just create reality. No one is going along with it anymore.

The irony, given that your MAGA leader lies constantly.

Ah yes, everything the left doesn't like is "misinformation."

Buckle up, we are just getting started.

Interesting, wasn’t Kelly Ann Conway the one who coined “alternative facts”? 🤔

Frankly you are disgusting, your post can be summarized as “never let a good big tragedy go to waste”. Basically the causes of this tragedy are
Commercial farmers in California should get a bigger share of the (scarce) water
Requiring vaccines (two years ago?) during a one in a century pandemic
Cancel emission testing for vehicles

Any other RW talking point you want to throw in? Dunno, maybe the fire was started by an illegal immigrant, or by an electric vehicle so we fo back to gas car, or maybe the offshore windmills are fanning the flames or something

People don’t actually want controlled burns.
They say they so, but when the time comes, they don’t want burns near their community.
That’s democrats and republicans.
They are all nimbys when it comes to controlled burns.

CA deserves all the bureaucracy it gets.

the fire has nothing to do with bureaucracy and everything to do with climate change. Less than a half inch of rain since last spring and other variables from there.

Oh and the whole lie about Mayor Bass cutting LA FD budget? Fake news. It was increased by $50m under her leadership.
Anonymous
It has been established that the budget was cut and the fire chief was not happy about it. This is not up for dispute. There is a reason why the fire chief said what she said during an interview. Whether the fire started by global warming or arson or the Santa Ana winds that happen this time is another discussion. The reality is they were not prepared and if you know that you have issues with global warming all the more reason not to cut off water from the north, make sure you are prepared in areas that are vulnerable, have a go to plan with planes etc-some of this stuff took all week. Why are they forcing fireworks from out of state do emissions testing first? This is an emergency just let them in. This has to not happen again. The concern is the progressives not willing to address some of the things that can mitigate fire if it happens. California is a liberal state but even liberal people are agreeing something needs to be reimagined. It is amazing how feelings change when you not only not have a house but no insurance or schools. It is a lot.
