Oh California

I cannot see why any commercial insurance company does business in California after this.

Granted they get to pass costs to customers; but their risk is just getting higher to payout too for claims.

Perhaps they should do what Florida did- subsidize fly by night operations that charge homeowners exorbitant rates and then bail the second a disaster hits? That’s been working out really well for them.

Who knows if any of what he said is true, but it occurred to me that the celebs are likely to shift right given what has happened to their community.

Quaid noted that he would rather have developer Rick Caruso rebuild the city than Karen Bass, commenting on Caruso’s retail property that was fire proof.

I’m predicting a hard step right…and that’s worrisome.

I dunno - keep in mind this state spent 24b to “solve homelessness” over 5 years without tracking any results.

Obviously there is still a homeless population in California- they just do not really care about money or how it is spent. Not the voters, and definitely not the politicians.

I think that is why congress is debating strings attached to the rescue funds - which normally is a no go third rail. Every state is entitled to federal support in times of need but California is so crazy with spending I get why people have concerns for giving them billions in federal aid.

Just like third world countries, power elites will grab most of the cash for themselves.

It may not be perfect but what has just happened cannot happen again. I actually think the fire chief is well qualified and she needs to have the resources to get everything done. With the caveat that she is in favor of hiring back the firefighters and collecting brush and finding a plan to work with the water department. If the focus on just CYA then nothing will improve.

California environmentalists blocked much of the brush clearing, fire stops, and many other preventative measures which could have reduced the impact and saved lives here.

Why do Democrats support this insanity?

Anyone?

My personal position, as a Democrat, is that climate change has completely changed how we need to view rebuilding. I believe that a policy that takes into account the realities of our changed environment should be enacted. Given that T has outlawed taking climate into account in our policymaking through is Executive Orders, I'm not sure how to make that reality.

That said, states have the right to make their own policies and decisions, so, we have to accept that they will make different choices than our national government might have.

Careful. There will be a full public accounting of whether the reservoirs were full and whether brush was cleared in the wooded areas. If you want to make bold statements like "the reservoirs were full" when even California officials are saying otherwise, it's going to look bad. The left cannot just create reality. No one is going along with it anymore.

We all sense the irony of a Trump supporter lecturing a normal person about reality. Your child-like view of the world would be adorable if you weren’t allowed to vote.

“Red flag warnings, like, it's a big indication of fires. So, of course they did,” admitted Alex Boz, an international relations staffer for the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office, acknowledging that the Office was fully aware of the devastating fires before they occurred. When pressed on the issue, Boz dismissed any responsibility, reiterating, “Of course they did,” referring to the LA Mayor’s Office knowing the fires were coming, “But the thing is, there’s nothing they can do.”

When discussing fire-prone areas like Pacific Palisades, Boz stated, “They've lost everything,” shifting the blame onto homeowners: “Their yards were out of code. Like, nobody gave a f*ck.” He continued, “The houses, like, they're supposed to be, like, a certain amount of feet apart, too.” Boz dismissed the destruction as inevitable, saying, “It was just, like, a ticking time bomb.”

“Firefighters… just didn’t have enough [water],” said Angel Luna, Project Manager for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), regarding the critical water shortage during the fires that ravaged the region. When asked how long the Santa Ynez reservoir had been empty before the fires, Luna confessed, “a year,” highlighting LADWP’s failure to take preventive measures, leaving the region vulnerable to disaster. According to Luna, part of the problem stemmed from firefighters damaging LADWP equipment: “They [firefighters] were also breaking our equipment,” he stated.

Luna also admitted to ignoring his mandatory LADWP training for the Water Emergency Command Center. “It was something that I was ignoring like earlier this year,” Luna confessed. He later revealed he completed his training “after the fact,” only after the devastation had already hit.

When confronted about his statements on hidden camera, Alex Boz repeatedly responded with “no comment” when asked about Mayor Bass’s actions, the city’s unpreparedness for wildfires, and his dismissive remarks about President Trump’s water policies.

Angel Luna also refused to answer direct questions regarding the year-long depletion of the San Ynez Reservoir. Pressed on his claims that LA firefighters damaged equipment, contributing to the critical water shortage during the fires, Luna repeatedly deflected, insisting, “I would need to speak to legal representation.” When asked why emergency water command training only took place after the fires, Luna gave the same response. Despite being reminded of the public outrage over LADWP’s failure to provide water while homes burned, Luna refused to engage, ultimately stating, “I will not be coming back to you," before hanging up.

The response is that statement was an out of context straw man post and not worth responding to. It's not factually based. Y'all just make up s***

Ms Communist Karen Bass now declares she was “unaware” of the widely reported wildfire warnings before she took off on her African extravaganza.

This....I lived there for 6 years and the same was true in NoCal. This was a Trump lie and FOX messaging during his last ugly term.

Why not emulate the climate oligarchs with ocean front compounds and constant private jet flights?

Stop spreading misinformation. No trucks were emission tested and no trucks were refused entry.

Only a small number of firefighters were fired for refusing vaccines, and it was over three years ago. They were indeed offered rehire (almost a year ago), and the vaccine mandate has since been abolished.

Also false that CA blocked water from the north.

Your post reads like you get your news from facebook groups and other MAGA sources. You should be embarrassed to be so gullible.

You don't need a "personal position" on this. The claims in the original post were all completely false. Some did not even have a kernel of truth. Instead of a personal position, maybe google some reliable sources and just know the truth.

All those burned houses will now not be able to be taxed for what the houses were worth pre fire -a house that was millions of dollars is not worth a lot when it is burned to ground. Will take years to get permits and rebuild. This fire is going to hurt people not even initially affected because this loss will affect all sorts of programs with funding. California is notoriously difficult with building permits. There will be zero appetite to pay more taxes to make up for this and progressives will continue to be blamed. Hoping there are lessons learned but have yet to hear any Democrats agree that you have to prioritize people over little fish. You have to allow fire stops and brush clearing. There has to be a way to have balance. Also all those fire fighters fired for. it taking Covid Vax need to be hired back asap. Also need to allow help with trucks to go directly to fighting fires and not have to do emissions testing first. Wishing the best for California!!!

There are plenty of places have large fire risks Arizona, New Mexico etc.

I don't understand why Californians built stick houses with tar paper rooves. Would it have been too expensive to build adobe style houses. This seems like a building codes problem. Brick with slate rooves maybe. Wouldn't that be cheaper than insuring something that the insurance company said is basically going to burn down. Oh and no bushes in your yards. No grass just rocks and cacti. When I lived in New Mexico everyone had a soaker for their house.
