The one thing I did not like about Alexandria was the email mention that parents should check in if their coaches have not reached out. Ours has, but frankly, that seemed like it was asking parents to narc. Really, there is not a ton that coaches can do for the kids.

Our coaches have been really great, and they are not paid much.

While I agree that Tommy Park is overpaid, I've written the ASA Board about that previously, and the current situation really doesn't seem like an appropriate environment to harp on that issue. If others feel differently, they are also free to contact ASA directly.

I'm not sure who you are referring to. I'm in the medical field, and not a business owner. I'm lucky in the sense that my job security is good right now, but I'm not lucky in the sense that I'm at high risk of falling ill.

Can anyone confirm whether cancelled tournaments like Jeff Cup will refund teams due to Covid?

Tournaments typically do not refund fees if cancelled. For instance, weather issues causing a cancellation does not warrant a refund. In some cases they will provide a credit for a future tournament but good luck with that. Typcially they do not refund

Wrong. Some tournaments buy insurance. The question if their insurance agreement includes a “force majeure” clause. Most clauses include weather cancellations but don’t know about coronavirus.

For us, travel soccer was the area in life where my son made friends from socioeconomically diverse backgrounds. His school is diverse, but his friends were mostly upper middle class. I keep wondering what is going to happen to some of those kids - their parents do not have jobs that would allow them to work from home. They didn't pay for soccer, so refunds are not the issue. But it would be nice for the club to organize something to help them. I've reached out to one or two parents that I know personally to ask if there is anything we can do to help, but one responded no and the other did not answer.

Same boat. A lot of people are proud and don't want help, and I love that, but at some point, there is nothing wrong with taking help from others who feel like you help them and their kids. I think it is better centralized through the club, who may be able to host the fundraise and then dispense it to families in need (like scholarship players). Like schools and feeding programs.

My son plays for the same club. I am glad that they are committed ti keeping the coaches employed. However, I am slightly worried that there may be an expectation for academy players to play in the summer if they want their spots back or to move up in the future. If the health crisis resolves, I was planning to send my child to spend part of the summer with his cousins, as we do every year.


It’s good the Board is committed to paying the Director his $300k+ per year... ridiculous

100-240K people estimated to die, and you are still griping about that? WTF is wrong with you. If it bothers you that much, have your kid play elsewhere next time. I'm not thrilled about it either, but I've made the decision that playing closer to home is better for our lives, and so I'm moving on with my life.

Let's keep this all in perspective.....let's double your top-line estimate and say we have 500,000 tragic deaths. That's still means that 99.85% of Americans will be ok at the end of this. Assuming our lives aren't upended by job losses, homelessness, bankruptcy etc. in the meantime.....

I get that times are tough economically. I've been furloughed, so although I have health insurance, I am not being paid. I am hoping things get back on track in the future, but if they don't, kids' soccer is the least of my concerns. I'm trying to stay positive and use my additional time to volunteer remotely to help others.

Agree, but it does seem asinine for the board to be committed to paying this outrageous salary in these tough economic times. Are they living in some alternate universe?

I just heard about this soccer coach that died yesterday in Fredericksburg from coronavirus, age 54 with two teenage kids. Do clubs provide life insurance?
