We paid $6k (two kids) for the entire year. We only got 1/2 a year. Who knows what will happen?

$3k ain't chump change.

Given the economy landscape we’ll have to go back to recreational soccer. This if we are able to go out from home.

I dont have a problem not getting a refund to keep paying the coaches, but I thought part of the fee was for tournaments, which have been cancelled. I would like to get that portion refunded.

many tournaments that cancelled have already disbursed refunds to clubs

the issue here is not that coaches should or should not be paid, many coach contracts say in the event of cancellation of season for force majeure then club does not have to pay
so if a club has to choose between paying coaches or not and refunding to families its a tough call, there is no reason they cant do both with reserves

once a club issues a refund even partial look for everyone to clamber for others to join

Why are you assuming the tournaments refunded the clubs? How do you know your club and team won't add tournaments at year end? Why don't we relax until we know what's going to happen? Nothing can or will happen on this front until then.

Wow, the angst and defensiveness of posters/club officials and coaches is crazy on this thread.

Here is the Alexandria tournament policy in their words:
If the entire event/tournament weekend is cancelled by Alexandria Soccer Association for any reason, accepted teams will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee. No refunds will be given if any games are played on the tournament weekend

So if a team paid in $800 approx it gets back $400. So if a team of 12 players each player could get back $33.33. Not much but its something.
If the Club doesnt give it to players then the club is making $400 off each team and $33.33 from each player that doesnt go to coaching or anything.

we all have other thing sto focus on now, but over time it is reasonable to ask questions and expect fair answers and decisions.

You are forgetting the leage's sunk costs: staff (most expensive cost), uniforms (for recreation) and fields. Cannot imagine the big guys (Socceplex anyone?) giving refunds for cancelled fields - they don't do that for rain/field closures, why would they do it for Corona Virus?

Fairfax county closed all their fields and cancelled permits. That should come with a refund to the clubs right?

Clubs pay peanuts to use Fx Co. fields...It would be like $10/kid.

Curious ... you think the Clubs won't ask for the fees back from the County?? 1000 kids x $10 = $10k
Clubs better ask for it back.

Wasn't talking about county fields - talking about the private ones. Yes, I believe the county will refund fees. I do not expect the Soccerplex to give refunds (MD not VA, but surely you've played there)

Coaches should be furloughed like everyone else. Return money to families.

You need to chill. People are going to lose their jobs, their investment savings, etc. every little bit counts. So I don’t need Tommy Park from Alexandria Soccer or any other programs director pocketing extra money when it either should be going to the coaches or back to the families.

If the club is NOT paying the coaches with the fees I paid, I want my money back. Kick rocks with your excuses or pay the coaches.

+1 exactly

Reality is the clubs have received their revenues and their expenses if not paid (coaches) or refunded (field fees & tournaments fees) are significant cost savings.
Clubs will also save $ if referees are not paid (they do not get paid for games not worked anyway) and insurance policy $ is refundable to an extent if seasons do not start or occur.

So if the Clubs save $ as a result of cancellation of games/practices/events then WHY should the Club keep that $?? As a nonprofit thats not what they should be doing.
All club executives and contract employees are still getting paid. WHy should they get a bonus??
