Travel / Rec Season Cancellations Refund Policy Master Thread

So how about we don't pay teachers either because school is closing and they don't have to teach.

People- get a grip. You are not getting your $300 back.

They are trying to act responsibly by canceling. They still need to pay the bills (i.e. field rentals etc). They are still paying coaches (do you really want your coach to not get paid because the season has paused)? Stop being so selfish.

If they cannot practically extend it, they could not practically refund without either not paying coaches (which may be infeasible if coaches are salaried or paid up front regardless of whether the year ends) or winding down as nonprofits. If you really need the money, start a go fund me. I think a lot of people are going to be in pretty dire straits soon and most of those people don’t have kids in travel soccer. So you may have pretty stiff competition for getting a refund on a 3000 dollar travel soccer program. If, on the other hand, if you care that much, hire a lawyer. You will almost certainly lose and there is no lawyer who would take this on a contingency. Which is a long way of saying cross and then burn the bridges when you get there and try to think of others who are in a much worse situation not of their own doing.

1500 for 1/2 year x 100 players = $150k
lawyer takes 1/3 = 50k

also youd be surprised how many people are lawyers and wiling to pay lawyers when they feel slighted

"almost certainly lose" why?
VA has not issued a ban. Not all clubs have even suspended.
Pretty good claim for refund as far as I can see.
And good business would be for Clubs to issue partial credits to families for many reasons.

OP. I am a lawyer so I do know the bar pretty well. And this is a loser case. Adjust the case to reflect probability of success and then determine how many hours it would take to win a jury trial after full discovery or even just the class cert hearing. 50K wouldn’t cover it at all b

And by the way. If you are wondering why the club would not have to settle, it’s because people like me would have my firm take it pro bono, and even if that were not true, the clubs would obviously have a reason to chip in on legal feees to have the first club defending this win.

Right. So I am explaining why it is worth focusing on something other than getting your little bit of cash back.

Actually you are the same guy posting and reposting. Lawyers like to hear themselves talk.
If you were really a lawyer you’d know VA doesn’t do class action anyway. I’ve represented several nonprofit clubs in a variety
Of sports circumstances and litigation. Lawyers and people bring cases all the time. Go review the Flint Hill case in Fairfax where parents sued the school successfully on tuition refund language and adhesion language. If someone brought a claim
They’d get a hearing and they might win. Your firm can lead the defense good for you. If you actually try cases as a trial lawyer (which you don’t at best you are a litigator or think you are) maybe you can get it by your pro bono committee. Hopefully that’s the biggest thing we all have to worry about.

The last poster is correct we don’t need lawyers rattling sabres. Original poster and the thread are legitimate concerns and deserve better answers and more respect than loudmouth lawyers crowing about what they’ll do.

Safe and health to all

Coaches get paid very little, they should absolutely pay them. This isn't their fault.

Yes they did. You should give the award to yourself.

most places are suspending all club activities until after spring break. That's April 12th.

I totally agree. I think the point is that if you eliminate all sources of revenue (rec and travel fees), the clubs cannot cover any costs, regardless of how little they are.

I don't think getting over a thousand dollars back is a "little bit of cash."
