Travel / Rec Season Cancellations Refund Policy Master Thread

Anonymous
In an effort to provide information and not start a club bashing thread I'll provide this information that just came out this morning from my daughters club but I will not provide the club name

"we will provide fair and equitable modifications to our programming through appropriate options including refunds and/or program credits"
also they noted that they are committed to paying their coaches and staff through the end of june/spring season

My son plays for the same club. I am glad that they are committed ti keeping the coaches employed. However, I am slightly worried that there may be an expectation for academy players to play in the summer if they want their spots back or to move up in the future. If the health crisis resolves, I was planning to send my child to spend part of the summer with his cousins, as we do every year.

It’s good the Board is committed to paying the Director his $300k+ per year... ridiculous

100-240K people estimated to die, and you are still griping about that? WTF is wrong with you. If it bothers you that much, have your kid play elsewhere next time. I'm not thrilled about it either, but I've made the decision that playing closer to home is better for our lives, and so I'm moving on with my life.

Let's keep this all in perspective.....let's double your top-line estimate and say we have 500,000 tragic deaths. That's still means that 99.85% of Americans will be ok at the end of this. Assuming our lives aren't upended by job losses, homelessness, bankruptcy etc. in the meantime.....

Right, but two things: 1) if you are related to or love one of the people that die, it makes no difference whether, statistically, most people are ok; and 2) griping about Tommy Parks here is useless. I get that times are tough economically. I've been furloughed, so although I have health insurance, I am not being paid. I am hoping things get back on track in the future, but if they don't, kids' soccer is the least of my concerns. I'm trying to stay positive and use my additional time to volunteer remotely to help others.

Agreed. I have no idea (nor do I care) who this Tommy guy is anyway....

Agree, but it does seem asinine for the board to be committed to paying this outrageous salary in these tough economic times. Are they living in some alternate universe?

Well, you could contact them about it. I doubt they can change what they committed to in his contract for this year, but maybe if you voice your concern things will change in the future.

"Agree, but it does seem asinine for the board to be committed to paying this outrageous salary in these tough economic times. Are they living in some alternate universe?"

You are seriously obsessed. WHO CARES. tough economic times? This is the single biggest economic boom in our lifetime and you call it tough economic times? Granted the past month has been difficult and I get people have lost their jobs but lets not make this out to be some years long financial drought. This will pass.

On the other hand your obsession with this guy Tommy Park will not pass. And for that I feel sorry for you. That club is profitable and has grown and served a larger part of their community over the past several years. Those years were under Parks leadership. Is he worth his salary, who cares, its not my business nor is it yours. If you dont like it take your business and your concerns elsewhere. Speak with your $$$ and not with your pathetic forum posting of concern.

Get over it already. Take some of that obsession and put it toward something productive in life, you'll be happier

The Tommy Parks boosters are strong in this thread; which is very bizarre considering IRL all the parents I have heard talking about him in the last 4 years my kid has played ASA have all thought he was kind of a jerk and way overpaid. Where have the super fans been before now?

Alexandria staff is clearly getting paid overtime and well to still be on DCUM. Tommy might not be that bad if he is paying during these crisis

Loudoun sent out an email yesterday saying that even though the Governor’’s Executive Order extends the shelter in place until June 10th, the spring season is not canceled. People that were registered for Spring Rec soccer that have asked for refunds haven’t been given anything. The season never started and won’t happen before the season was supposed to end. Travel is a 10 month deal and 7 months happened (and coaches are paid), so I understand clubs not granting refunds, but don’t see how you don’t for a season that won’t happen and where none of the coaches (ie rec) get paid.

Loudoun and Mclean will get what they deserve then. Selfish %^&*s. There will be backlash from the travel side.

Selfish coaches and clubs! This is about the kids, right? Return our money to families that need it. You are not special and should be in the same boat as the rest of us.

There is no logical reason for these greedy clubs not to full refund rec spring soccer. Those are all volunteer run, they haven’t paid the field fees, and they haven’t incurred any expenses (referees, mowing etc). What a ridiculous money grab.

I see the sock puppet’s mental illness has returned. Get a life or a job. Russians would love to hire somebody to do this on Facebook when the election approaches.

Ooooh you’re one of those.

I don’t particularly like Tommy Park or agree with some of the ways that ASA spends its money, but they are fully paying their coaches through the end of the season, which I agree with.

Wrong on the Loudoun announcement. Just read it, and it’s dated March 27. Northam’s announcement was March 31. They probably need to figure out their solution and update their position.

Not sure why you’re griping about clubs. State and national governments can’t figure this out - everyone is playing catch-up in this crisis.

Full refunds will bankrupt clubs. Not going to happen, nor should it.

Virginia is one of the worst places in the entire world when it comes to testing, that's why it is taking so long to confirm and why the case numbers look so low.
