Travel / Rec Season Cancellations Refund Policy Master Thread

So if (IF) a travel season is cancelled by the Club under these circumstances which has to be deemed proactive conservative decision can family get a full or partial refund for the season? Or credit towards next season? Seems fair and appropriate. What's the expectation?

Funny I asked the same question in the coronavirus thread and the one response I received seem to think there would be no refund. I haven't gone as far to see what is written in the terms but I am curious to know.

No. No refund. They will not cancel the season just suspend it. You will get the end of spring tournaments and tryouts. Make a stink and your kids will be out next year.

Yes, I don’t get all these questions about refunds from schools, soccer, etc. are those people not supposed to have income during this time?

Gotta pay for the FCV coaches Vegas trip. No refund.

i think its a legit question. What if it happened in the beginning of the season.

Let’s see...maybe...no refund! They do not give money back ever!

if you contract for 8 months of service for $1000 and the vendor only provides you 4 months then you should be entitled to get $500 back

there is no force majeure or act of god here yet such as a fire flood etc. that makes training and games impossible
if the County was to close fields then that could be an act outside of control of Club that makes training and games impossible,
so far thta hasnt happened.
Right now Clubs are proactively taking action to avoid harm NOT acting in reaction to actual harm. There is a difference.

Clubs will need to get ahold of this soon as it really is not fair to take $ and not provide services

do coaches get paid up front? what does a travel coach contract say about payment?

interesting choice for club directors to have to make if they can choose between cutting coaches payments and refunding to parents OR paying coaches to not coach

This is not a difficult problem. They will push the season out it if they can. So games will go into summer. This isn’t school. There is no fixed end of the year or unions. If they cannot practically extend it, they could not practically refund without either not paying coaches (which may be infeasible if coaches are salaried or paid up front regardless of whether the year ends) or winding down as nonprofits. If you really need the money, start a go fund me. I think a lot of people are going to be in pretty dire straits soon and most of those people don’t have kids in travel soccer. So you may have pretty stiff competition for getting a refund on a 3000 dollar travel soccer program. If, on the other hand, if you care that much, hire a lawyer. You will almost certainly lose and there is no lawyer who would take this on a contingency. Which is a long way of saying cross and then burn the bridges when you get there and try to think of others who are in a much worse situation not of their own doing.

1500 for 1/2 year x 100 players = $150k
lawyer takes 1/3 = 50k

also youd be surprised how many people are lawyers and wiling to pay lawyers when they feel slighted

"almost certainly lose" why?
VA has not issued a ban. Not all clubs have even suspended.
Pretty good claim for refund as far as I can see.
And good business would be for Clubs to issue partial credits to families for many reasons.

FPYC is not canceling anything. Do they get the award for dumbest children’s athletic league?
