Why does the GOP deserve my vote?

Yes, indeed this has been an illuminating thread. Lots of people who say on other threads that both parties are the exact same thing. So I took them all at their word and have asked those people, as well as reliable Republicans, to make the case for why I, as a moderate, should vote for the GOP. We’re eight pages in and not one single Republican/Moderate/Independent has been able to make a case for their party.

Lots of people pretending not to understand what I meant, lots of people halfway to insulting me, but not a one of you can make a cogent case for why I should cast a vote for a Republican candidate at any level.

Why should they bother? You were obviously disingenuous. I’m not voting Republican but wouldn’t answer you either.

And yet you couldn't bother to answer the question. It's not disingenuous. I don't even know what the GOP's platform is these days. What are you running on other than being against the Democrats?

I didn’t answer the question because I’m not voting Republican. But I can see why a true independent or moderate wouldn’t answer. It’s a disingenuous, borderline troll question. I don’t answer troll questions either.

It’s not a troll question to be asked what your party stands for.

It’s a troll question when someone misrepresents herself, as OP did. People recognize dishonesty.

Yep. The very first sentence of the OP gave her away as a troll. The rest of her rant was simply a desperate attempt to pick a fight. Not interested.

Could have fooled me, it seems like the only thing your party is interested in is picking fights.

Stop running on the hamster wheel that any criticism means someone must not be voting for a democrat. That is the real bugaboo here. If someone isn’t goosestepping to all your points, they must be an enemy.

Op should vote Dem, no question. She needs no convincing to vote GOP. There is no debate to be had except to stop painting people with broad brushes. What OP really wants to do is shame people for having positions that are not 100% in line with the Dems.

If someone were to say:

Well, i usually tend to vote Dem. I don’t agree with many GOP candidates on opposing abortion outright. I am open to abortion up to the point of viability outside the womb and life of the mother.

Then the response here is typically either, “MAGA!!!!” or “you MUST support all abortions at anytime. We give no quarter to any restrictions.”

So, then the usual Dem supporter is out in the position of having no party, because the party they usually support doesn’t want to listen to her position, and she doesn’t agree with the other party on this issue or many others.

This is just one example I’ve heard from a few moderates. OP is not one of the people who finds herself torn between the parties.

Nice straw man. I didn't ask for an absolute set of positions. I asked for a platform and what the GOP's policies are. How are they intending to make this nation better? And by the way, there is a party of fascists and there's everyone else. Right now, that means most people have to vote Democrat because there isn't an alternative. I include myself among them.

Why should anyone vote for the Dems, just because they don’t like the GOP? I supported Biden in the last election, but the Dems no longer have me as a loyalist. Just because the other side is worse, is no longer good enough. A party like Andrew Yang’s cant gain momentum soon enough. I hope they start making progress over the next decade.

OK, I'll bite.

It's not a matter of simply "disliking" the GOP, as though they simply made the cardinal sin of wearing white after Labor Day. The GOP is an actual existential threat to democracy itself. I can't believe this has to be explained.

Funny,
I believe the same thing about Democrats. I fear that Biden has taken our country in a direction that will be irreparable in a year.

Here’s my guess: Biden will step down after winning nomination and M&ch&lle Oba%a will step in. You will swoon and coo, and vote for her, thinking she will save the nation, when in truth, what you are seeing now is the nation she wants.

Michelle Obama is never running for President. She didn’t even want Barack Obama to run for President. She is done and anyone who thinks she’s getting involved in this mess has issues.

They’re constantly going on about how bad Biden is, but all I see is the GOP blocking action and actively damaging the country.

So here are my issues:
Abortion: never needed one, never sought one but this is my hill to die on. Forcing women to give birth and then punishing them forever with the child and absolutely zero help is unconscionable. Doing so based on one group’s religious beliefs not only makes women second class citizens, but it erases the Constitutionally demanded separation of church and state. How does the GOP square this with their claims of originalism and respecting the documents? Why should I, an intelligent woman, give my vote to the party that promises a national ban on abortion and teases a ban on birth control for good measure?

The American Experiment: I’m a flag waving dork for America. I love our goofy melting pot, I cry at naturalization ceremonies. I love my country. I love the promise of democracy. I love that the government isn’t supposed to ban books, that we are supposed to have the freedom of speech. What is the GOP doing to rectify their fascism/authoritarianism? Are they finally going to address all the ways they cheat at elections? Why should I, a proud American, have to wonder if they’re ever going to do the right thing in regards to getting the treason out of their party? (And are they ever going to do right by the military? I never see them actually support the military in anything other than the most trite way.)

The environment: global warming and habitat loss are real and neither is happening because of “natural cycles,” they’re happening because of human activity, and just a few big businesses are the most of that. Storms are getting bigger, droughts longer lasting, the pollinators and the birds are a fraction of what they were even a few years ago. The temperature keeps rising. If the GOP wants my vote, what are they going to do to ameliorate this? They’re the reason nothing has been done so far, so why should I give them my vote?

Two of the pet issues of the moderates and independents seem to be inflation and immigration but neither of those issues bothers me and if they were real issues, I don’t see the GOP offering any actual solutions.

So let me know, Republicans and so called moderates and independents, why does your party deserve my vote? Can you make a case for the GOP based on what’s important to me. And can you do it without whatabouting/“both sides”-ing?

Easy answer. No one on the national political scene currently "deserves" your vote. And yes, that includes the leadership in the GOP who have been the most atrocious in recent years.

DP.

The border crisis wasn’t solved under a Republican President from 2020-2024. What are the real, actionable proposals that the GOP is putting forward on the border, that don’t include pandering to the corporate interests benefiting from illegal immigrant labor?

We didn't have a Republican president from 2020-24.
We have had a Democratic president who have made our borders nonexistent. Today's flood of migrants into Eagle Pass has prompted the Democratic mayor to issue a state of emergency and call on Biden to change policy.
The Republicans passed an immigration bill earlier this year that Schumer has refused to take up.
And, if you don't think Democrats are for open borders, you need to listen to Veronica Escobar's "questioning" today at the Garland hearing. It wasn't really questioning as much as complaining about Abbott. Zero recognition or admission that Biden has a self-inflicted crisis because of his rhetoric and policies, or lack of them.

Our interdictions are up since 2017-2021
The amount of drugs seized is up since 2017-2021
The number of people deported is up since 2017-2021

These are not the records of a country who borders are non-existent.

The Dems have poured significantly more money into DHS and border security, into drones, and infared technology to aid our men and women law enforcement. Money the GOP opposed spending.

Want to try again?

OP here. Howdy! I didn’t misrepresent myself at all. I am a true Moderate as my positions are in line with what a majority of Americans believe. I have read a number of people on this site who claim to be Moderates and Independents but say that both parties are the same, so I asked those people, as well as people who identify as Republican, to sell me on the GOP based on the issues that are most important to me.

I know you don’t want to think it’s telling that you don’t have anything substantive to say in defense of the GOP, but it is. I listed my true primary issues and two PPs listed two individual Republicans. Other than that there have been zero substantive answers in defense of the GOP. That isn’t just telling, that’s screaming.

Please elaborate. Give specifics.
