Why does the GOP deserve my vote?

They’re constantly going on about how bad Biden is, but all I see is the GOP blocking action and actively damaging the country.

So here are my issues:
Abortion: never needed one, never sought one but this is my hill to die on. Forcing women to give birth and then punishing them forever with the child and absolutely zero help is unconscionable. Doing so based on one group’s religious beliefs not only makes women second class citizens, but it erases the Constitutionally demanded separation of church and state. How does the GOP square this with their claims of originalism and respecting the documents? Why should I, an intelligent woman, give my vote to the party that promises a national ban on abortion and teases a ban on birth control for good measure?

The American Experiment: I’m a flag waving dork for America. I love our goofy melting pot, I cry at naturalization ceremonies. I love my country. I love the promise of democracy. I love that the government isn’t supposed to ban books, that we are supposed to have the freedom of speech. What is the GOP doing to rectify their fascism/authoritarianism? Are they finally going to address all the ways they cheat at elections? Why should I, a proud American, have to wonder if they’re ever going to do the right thing in regards to getting the treason out of their party? (And are they ever going to do right by the military? I never see them actually support the military in anything other than the most trite way.)

The environment: global warming and habitat loss are real and neither is happening because of “natural cycles,” they’re happening because of human activity, and just a few big businesses are the most of that. Storms are getting bigger, droughts longer lasting, the pollinators and the birds are a fraction of what they were even a few years ago. The temperature keeps rising. If the GOP wants my vote, what are they going to do to ameliorate this? They’re the reason nothing has been done so far, so why should I give them my vote?

Two of the pet issues of the moderates and independents seem to be inflation and immigration but neither of those issues bothers me and if they were real issues, I don’t see the GOP offering any actual solutions.

So let me know, Republicans and so called moderates and independents, why does your party deserve my vote? Can you make a case for the GOP based on what’s important to me. And can you do it without whatabouting/“both sides”-ing?

Easy answer. No one on the national political scene currently "deserves" your vote. And yes, that includes the leadership in the GOP who have been the most atrocious in recent years.

OP here.

I specifically requested that you make the case for the GOP and without resorting to “both sides” rhetoric.

When you ask dumb questions, you often times don't get the answer you are looking for. We all know that no active GOP politician has done anything to "deserve" our vote. If someone asked why Democratic politicians "deserve' your vote, the answer would be the same. This isn't rocket science.

Yes, indeed this has been an illuminating thread. Lots of people who say on other threads that both parties are the exact same thing. So I took them all at their word and have asked those people, as well as reliable Republicans, to make the case for why I, as a moderate, should vote for the GOP. We’re eight pages in and not one single Republican/Moderate/Independent has been able to make a case for their party.

Lots of people pretending not to understand what I meant, lots of people halfway to insulting me, but not a one of you can make a cogent case for why I should cast a vote for a Republican candidate at any level.

Why should they bother? You were obviously disingenuous. I’m not voting Republican but wouldn’t answer you either.

+100000

And yet you couldn't bother to answer the question. It's not disingenuous. I don't even know what the GOP's platform is these days. What are you running on other than being against the Democrats?

Stop running on the hamster wheel that any criticism means someone must not be voting for a democrat. That is the real bugaboo here. If someone isn’t goosestepping to all your points, they must be an enemy.

Op should vote Dem, no question. She needs no convincing to vote GOP. There is no debate to be had except to stop painting people with broad brushes. What OP really wants to do is shame people for having positions that are not 100% in line with the Dems.

If someone were to say:

Well, i usually tend to vote Dem. I don’t agree with many GOP candidates on opposing abortion outright. I am open to abortion up to the point of viability outside the womb and life of the mother.

Then the response here is typically either, “MAGA!!!!” or “you MUST support all abortions at anytime. We give no quarter to any restrictions.”

So, then the usual Dem supporter is out in the position of having no party, because the party they usually support doesn’t want to listen to her position, and she doesn’t agree with the other party on this issue or many others.

This is just one example I’ve heard from a few moderates. OP is not one of the people who finds herself torn between the parties.

Nice straw man. I didn't ask for an absolute set of positions. I asked for a platform and what the GOP's policies are. How are they intending to make this nation better? And by the way, there is a party of fascists and there's everyone else. Right now, that means most people have to vote Democrat because there isn't an alternative. I include myself among them.

Why should anyone vote for the Dems, just because they don’t like the GOP? I supported Biden in the last election, but the Dems no longer have me as a loyalist. Just because the other side is worse, is no longer good enough. A party like Andrew Yang’s cant gain momentum soon enough. I hope they start making progress over the next decade.

OK, I'll bite.

It's not a matter of simply "disliking" the GOP, as though they simply made the cardinal sin of wearing white after Labor Day. The GOP is an actual existential threat to democracy itself. I can't believe this has to be explained.

Funny,
I believe the same thing about Democrats. I fear that Biden has taken our country in a direction that will be irreparable in a year.

Please elaborate. Give specifics.

Yes this. I am eagerly awaiting the PP's answer in the next short period of time. Trump has built himself up as such a force of nature that no matter how "bad" it gets under Biden, Trump should be able to "fix" it immediately. He even said he could resolve the Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours. Pure insanity.

I am curious what you think campaigning is for?

Who is campaigning and for what job?

a politician, for elected office, as in the premise of op's op

There are no Federal level politicians currently campaigning that are deserving of anyone's vote. Does this answer the question?

no in fact it's profoundly unhelpful and antithetical to the premise of op's question.

Sorry, I wish there was an actual answer to that question. There are lot's of why doesn'ts but no why does. It is what it is.

OP here. I can make a case for Biden. You cannot make a case for Trump. I also specifically asked for people not to resort to “both sides”-ing things in lieu of providing a real answer.

There is no real answer! You are "both side"-ing by mentioning the Trump & Biden names. No one thinks Trump or Biden "deserves" votes to serve as leader of the most powerful country in the world going forward. It's as simple as that. Anyone that claims Trump and/or Biden are the absolute best options we have are either RNC/DNC employees or folks that need to have their heads examined. sheesh

you are applying a very narrow definition of "deserves" here, in order to avoid op's actual question

make the case for why op - who intends to vote for one of two candidates in any given election - should consider the r

or don't and just say you don't believe in elections, man, because really who can even say what the difference is when the guy banning abortion is in charge and when the guy creating the climate corps is in charge, dude

No. If you had read my OP you’d see the three issues most important to me are democracy, the environment and abortion rights. I can look at Biden’s record, at most every Democrat’s record, and I can see my beliefs reflected decently well. I can’t see a single Republican that reflects my beliefs. You can’t articulate a simple argument for a Republican.

this should answer the question

The GOP simply doesn't deserve the vote from anyone who actually believes in the United States, who supports our military, or supports the US as a shining city on the hill.
