Why?

The current principal is not effective. Fighting is out of control, very little discipline. Staff and parents are not happy.

That's not a SSIMS thing, that's an MCPS thing.

The truest statement I’ve seen all day.

+1

Truest statement of the year.

Magruder principal retiring this year. It’s about time.

There are currently 26 assistant principal/assistant school administrator positions posted.
8-HS
4-MS
14-ES

I haven’t watched those numbers in the past, but it seems early in the transfer season for there to be so many. Are APs/ASAs dropping out of administration? Switching to consulting teacher? Retiring?

For the AP pool, those numbers are low, especially considering it’s early. Keep in mind that some of these schools have spots opening because when a principal intern is assigned, somebody needs to be reassigned. All secondary schools have multiple APs as well (2 in MS, 4 or even 5 in high schools).

Yeah. I am a Magruder teacher have not heard this. I would not be surprised though. I think he is one of the longest serving principals in MCPS based on his salary.

I have felt that the last few years have felt like transition years. The admin needs a shake-up for several reasons, but staff also don’t want to be micromanaged by a new principal looking to make change just for appearances.

Definitely do not want a micromanager. They ruin it for everybody. Wasn't there a mass exodus at Clarksburg HS when this happened? Will probably be the same at Magruder if someone comes in like that.

Re: the CCES principal supposedly retiring at the end of this year: I looked back at our communication from Rosemary Hills last year, and the principal announced she was retiring at the start of February. I'm pretty Smith would have sent a formal letter about her retiring by now if she were really stepping down at the end of the year. I think she'll be around a few more years at least.

Didn’t Elon Musk say he was stepping down as CEO? No point in speculating until someone puts in their resignation notice. I think a lot of principals look for central office jobs just before they retire. Some folks may be waiting to see how that shakes out.

Called it.

This is the word salad we got this week from the CCES principal:

"There are decisions we make along our personal journeys that involve forks in the road, bumps, and responsibilities. My journey has been part of a love of learning and making a difference in education through ensuring each child knows that he or she is capable of anything through hard work and passion. When I completed my Bachelor and Master’s degree, I was ready for the doctoral program but life put that decision on the side for a while. In the past two weeks, an opportunity of a lifetime has presented itself to me, to work on my doctoral degree. This decision has been filled with a list of pros and cons yet my passion for learning is still front and center. I have been accepted into a doctoral program and I could not be more excited. With this decision, I knew that this will support CCES, or students, families, and staff so I am setting my retirement aside for now. My journey will always have CCES in the forefront. I look forward to applying my new found knowledge for our children."

Will a new principal allow the SRO back into the school? I hear a bunch of other high schools are.

Isn’t that a central office decision?
