X a million. This business of Facebook Expertise/Internet Expertise and "but I know a guy . .. " foundation for opinions is out of control. And people who do it look like the morons they are. |
What do you mean that is NEVER the problem - what sort of bubble do you live in that you think that's not the problem?! |
Never is too strong. Often is true. They don't want to leave their homes. |
No place has more shelters than Florida, most of them 75% FEMA funded. There are shelters. Transportation is arranged for people in mandatory evacuation areas, either from government or people or groups in the community. People who stay are people do not want to go to a shelter. |

Fort Myers News Press article from last Tuesday. Ten Lee County shelters open, large capacity, pets welcome at most, no one will be turned away, call local government or United Way for help, etc. Not in this article, but the county also has a special needs shelter for people with medical needs, and a pet shelter. FEMA and Florida have been funding this capacity for three decades since Andrew. It is not hard to find or get to a shelter in Florida.
Hurricane Ian shelters are open in Lee County, here's where to go in Fort Myers, Bonita Springs and Estero https://www.news-press.com/story/news/2022/09/27/hurricane-ian-lee-county-florida-shelters-open-heres-where-go/10439344002/ |

It's not like this hurricane just snuck up on Florida's West Coast. People could see that it was coming for many days. And it was BIG.
It's also not like people in Florida had no experience with hurricanes. They know that hurricanes come. That they can do damage -- especially Cat 4 hurricanes. They are not imbeciles and they don't need to be told to evacuate when the hurricane is coming very close. I struggle to find anything, anything at all nice to say about Ron Disantis... but I shrug at the news media trying to pin blame on the state of Florida for not sounding the "evacuation" alarm. That's just trying to create d-r-a-m-a. |
+1 exactly |
Sure its his state. He wants the credit for doing a great job but he failed. |
DeSantis seems to care more about the welfare of his people than getting "credit for doing a great job." The truth is.... his residents ARE giving him credit for doing a great job. But, do go off........ |
Whether a person likes the guy or not, he grew up in Florida in a working class family. Didnt come from privilege but smart and did well. He knows a thong or two about hurricanes and the people living in Florida. A bunch of outsiders yapping about his supposed failures doesn't change the facts. There was information about this nearly Category 5 hurricane almost 24/7. Plenty of time for people to leave. |
Eh. I struggle to care about Ron getting blamed for something when the corporate media has spent the better part of two years gnashing their teeth and rending their garments over Biden sneezing inelegantly or whatever crap they’ve complained incessantly about. But if people didn’t leave in large enough numbers, it is just possible that he and his government - and the buck stops there, remember - failed in getting word out. |
| I registered as a republican in central Florida today. I’m tired of the loons the republicans keep nominating. |
Lol that’s a good one! Been watching Fox again? |
Lame lame lame |
+1 yep |
