Hurricane Ian's effect on Florida voting

Anonymous
There’s definitely recent precedent for this both in Florida and elsewhere. Hurricanes happen in the fall. Sandy was like a week before the 2012 election. Hurricane Michael hit Florida and Florence hit NC in 2018 right before those midterms.

How would this affect the election. Is there a precedence? Can these folks who have lost a lot vote. Has Desantis and his AG have a plan to protect voting rights of the disaster affected folks? Are they going to play games to depress Democrat voting area not being supported where as republicans voting area being given alternatives?

Let's see... I've just lost my entire house, cars, personal property... perhaps my job... perhaps I have a family member who was injured in the storm. But by golly, the first thing I'm thinking about is my voting rights for an election 6 weeks away.

OP, frankly I find your post really offensive. This is not about you and your desire to cling to the D's handful-seats majority in the House.

Really, this is rich coming from a party that uses Human being as political pawn that some of them have endured excruciating hardship to seek asylum in USA or try to punish women who have lost their pregnancy to miscarriage?

This is a political forum and yes politics is the discussion. If you are so touchy get of this forum. BTW, sanctimonious fools like you did not see any issue when Puerto Ricans were in similar disaster and your party was putting all its effort to not help them and come to lecture here when it is FL's turn.

I did not suggest that Biden or Democrats should play politics, but I have no trust that Desantis, Rubio, Scott would not. Does Desantis have a plan to fix this in 6 weeks? Let me see his plan, if you are familiar!

Just want to note the fact that this is only happening in your imagination. You are playing this out in your mind. Meanwhile, hundreds of people lay dead in Florida.

Exactly. What a completely nonsensical word salad.

How was election worked during those times? Wouldn't mail in ballot be better for a situation like this?

There are lots of news articles on how those storms affected how voting eventually worked in those elections.

Here’s a NYT article about what they did after Sandy, but keep in mind that that was way closer to the election. https://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/13/nyregion/lessons-from-hurricane-sandy-being-applied-to-election-planning.html

I checked that article. I do not see a conscious Hurricane Risk planning though. If it is, then that's not talked in reference to inching towards the event. It should not be an afterthought.

Did not find any article about Hurricane Michael and how that was handled.

OP seems to believe that Democrats are the only ones affected by this disaster.
This thread is a window into the mind of a liberal. Priorities.

Don’t you know DeSantis planned this hurricane? This site is insane.

It’s a better one into the minds of cons. You guys are clearly very angry that people can see how your party targets and attacks Democrats and prevents Democratic votes from counting.

To be honest? This ‘con’ doesn’t even begin to understand where your anger and disdain come from. If ‘cons’ prevented Dem votes from counting, Biden would not be in office. JFC

DP i am someone who takes voting very seriously and hell yes if a storm destroyed my life I would be wanting to make sure I got to vote for those candidates who would help me. Not someone who say had a track record of voting against aid to storm victims.

Voting is a form of self interest and preservation.

The con inability to take responsibility for what their party has done is just *chef’s kiss.* Reams of links, hundreds of pages of discussion devoted to all the ways the GOP has tried to chisel Democrats out of their votes and not a single con knows anything. Why? Because their entire shaky worldview is predicated on being ignorant and damn proud. If they learn the truth, they have to adjust their worldview.
