It really is. I know that photos only catch a split second, but this split second is funny and really displays what elected Republicans are.

Yes. Genuine people who comfort every day citizens who have lost everything in a hurricane.
Instead, Biden chooses to schmooze with politicians and talk about what a "big guy" he is.

I love how the woman is trying to take comfort here, and DeSantis isn't even looking at her, but instead it seems like he is looking at a camera for a photo-op.

Oh, FFS. He is hugging her. Comforting her.
And, he is NOT looking at the camera.
Get a grip.

Yep. That's because PP is pathetically desperate. And boy does it show.

You need to take another look at facial expressions and nonverbal cues.

Will add that I think that's a comfort hug in any language.

Anonymous wrote:The biggest threat to DeSantis and Republicans is the property insurance crisis. Insurers already were cancelling policies before Ian, and that will continue statewide, not just where Ian hit. Premiums will keep getting higher for less coverage. In SW FL insurers will low-ball hurricane claims, force people to sue, and drag out the cases to pressure settlements, as they always do.

DeSantis won’t do anything except blame the lawyers who sue insurers. Republicans never take a hard line against the insurance industry. It’s part of their pay-to-play patronage network.

The roofers suing insurance companies is the issue in Florida. It seems like an easy enough problem to fix.

NP here. That is not the main problem at all. My husband is a property casualty underwriter. His company has an office in Clearwater. The main problem is the amount of damage in the past to nearly every part of Florida. The amount of claims they get over and over again. More and more companies are just pulling out of Florida completely because it is just not profitable for them to be there. Those that stay are raising rates to levels that aren't affordable to the average person. And good luck getting flood insurance. This was all a big problem before Hurricane Ian. Now it is just going to be exacerbated. He isn't home right now or I'd ask him more, but he's been talking about the problems there for awhile now, as we were thinking of getting a retirement home there.

And this is the big issue with Florida that many Floridians (mostly the Republicans, it seems) don’t want to talk about. Global warming is raising oceans levels and worsening storms. It’s not like Ian is going to be the last unexpectedly bad hurricane.

And I don’t see DeSantos or any other repo doing anything about it. Just taking federal money and showboating.
