House of the Dragon - Game of Thrones spinoff (SPOILERS)

R and Daemon didn’t have sex. So when she said “he never touched me”, she wasn’t lying. She is using “touched” in the sexual sense. Not that “he has never physically had his body anywhere near mine”. She didn’t lie on her mother’s grave. Had Alicent said “and you swear your are still a virgin?” And she swore, then she would be lying. Alicent was right that she was no longer a virgin, but she didn’t have the right man.

How clever. Kissing, dropping pants, making out, getting pinned on the wall = Never touched me. Cute.

Second clever item. I have not sullied my maiden hood, believe me this!

Straight up dishonest liar, plain as day.

And why is Alicent so bothered by Rhaenyra not telling her about her sleeping with Criston? She used to be Rhaenyra’s friend and sneakily married her father, the king?!

Because her dad lost his position after Rhaenyra denied it, making him look like a liar to get Aegon into power.

NP. I too don't understand why Allicent is so mad at Rhaenyra, and your explanation doesn't really make sense, because she DIDN'T have sex with Daemon, so Rhaenyra never lied to Allicent. She just didn't tell her "but oh yeah I banged my protector" -- understandable since that could get him killed.

In the interviews with the show creators after the episode, they did confirm that Allicent was simply angry that Rhaenyra hadn't told her the whole WHOLE truth, but that seems silly to me in context.

I agree that I didn't get it at the time, but it makes sense - when Allicent was questioning Ser Criston I thought she was accusing him, but she was really trying to get to the truth about what Rhaenyra told her. Why would Rhaenyra's father send her miscarriage tea if he didn't believe the allegations. Then she finds out that not only did Rhaenyra not tell her the whole truth, she risked the life of her guard, and Allicent has a son and daughter to think of, as her father reminded her. Plus, the King firing Allicent's father was not because he didn't believe her father it was because her father wasn't going to cover for Rhaenyra.

I don't think this was all particularly well done, but it's definitely the moment where Allicent decides to declares herself on the side of her son over Rhaenyra.

That wedding was a mess. You knew from almost the first second that someone was going to lose their ish. I agree that the setup for it being Ser Criston didn't really work for me. Was sad to lose another Joffrey in that way.

I don't understand how this isn't about her dad. He told the king the truth, Rhaenyra lied and denied the truth, and because the king believed her, she told Otto to leave, assuming he was a liar. Alicent found out that R was lying via Sir Criston's confession.

Remind me, how? Cristin didn't say anything about Daemon.

I think it’s just that her father was barking up the right tree, and he was dismissed as a liar.

Otto was lucky he wasn't killed for questioning the heir's virtue. Shows King Viserys's weakness as well knowing there was truth in what the Hand said. But in court games, truth doesn't matter

A whole lot happened in last night's episode, and not just the age up. For all my complaining about the Young Rhaenyra I am not convinced that older Rhaenya is a step up. She seems to have lost something along the way, but at least her clothes fit.

While I totally get the concern about Rhaenyra's children not being legitimate, I admit I am a little confused about the supposed premium placed on virtue. It just seems out of sync with the general vibe of the show. Allicent is the first to call for protection of virtue but she was seducing the King while he was grieving. And I find it REALLY hard to buy that Criston is just standing around serving as the King's guard with seemingly no consequences. And that Rhaenyra up and took up with another dark haired dude part of her guard and has been with him for many years. Like, she and Laenor never tried? Anyway, I think all of that is a bit of a mess, but I am fascinated with all the children.

Daemon's story is a bit sad. I kind of like that he took off to Pentos and peaced out from all the Westeros crap. His wife's end was very sad, but also weird. No one tried to stop her? Enough with the childbirth scenes, please.

Honestly, I am ready for the Laenor death and Rhaenyra/Daemon love story storyline here.

I mean, what were Laena’s options? Death by fire (I believe she alluded to a dragon rider’s death earlier in the episode), or being butchered alive like Queen Aemma? Pretty sure I would take the dragon death there, too.

Why were only Rhaenyra and Allicent given new actors? The timeline was only 15 years or so. They could have kept them.

+1. They could have aged the originals with makeup.

The timeline is actually 25-ish years, but I question their decision to recast some characters but not others, it makes it harder to follow. If anything, they probably should have only used the younger actresses for the first episode or two and then immediately aged them up to the current actors (even though I thought Milly Alcock was great in the role.) By the time the Dance of the Dragons takes place, Aegon II is in his early-to-mid 20's and I don't think 19 year old Emily Carey could have pulled off being his mother.

It’s more like 15 year jump. Allicent’s son isn’t in his late 20s.

+1. It appears to be 15 years based on the kids ages and Rheanyra having her 4th child. She was probably supposed to be 15 in the first few episodes and now she’s about 30.

There will be another time jump in episode 8, which will bring the current "kids" to their late-teens, early-20s. At that point, season 1 will have covered about 25 years. I agree though, they could have used the younger actresses up to episode 8, and then switched to Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke for the final few episodes to setup for season 2.

.

In any situation where lineage is important for inheritance, title, etc, there is a tremendous double standard. Men can sleep around all they want because there’s no threat that illegitimate children could inherit. Women are kept on a tight leash to ensure that there’s no chance for anyone outside the marriage to father a child.

Why didn’t Rhaenyra and Laenor just have a few legitimate kids? It’s really not that hard.
