Just finished my first two weeks ago and lost 10 pounds. I feel so great I’m never going back. I will add more carbs like brown rice, but no gluten, dairy, and very limited alcohol. OP you can do it but it takes a major mental adjustment to become permanent. Good luck.

Oh and I’m 48 too. Don’t let age dissuade you.

Yes. Keto. I lost about 15 lbs in 4-5 weeks

I’ve been trying to lose 10 pounds for 12 years and I can’t do it.

I lost 8 lbs in a month, so I think it’s possible. I did it by severely restricting carbs (a sandwich on slim bread at lunch) and exercising every day, no exceptions. It has stayed off, too.

Definitely possIble but this is the absolute worst time of year to embark on this plan, so don't get discouraged if you don't quite reach your goal. It is much easier to do this once the holidays are behind you.

10 lbs in 6 weeks is definitely safe- its actually my goal as I have been up a little down a little all summer/fall and want to just kick this in the but by Christmas. Fortunately I don't have a a ton of events this holiday season so that makes it easier.

As someone who has had to lose weight a few times in her life (thanks for the genetics grandma!) I actually disagree- this is the BEST time, because you are bound to mess up, you are bound to indulge a bit with all the treats floating and the drinks etc......but you were going to do that anyway, so even if you don't lose much, if you try to stay in the more disciplined mindset of "losing" during this time, even if you mess up a lot you will probably stay the same or lose 1-2 lbs, whereas you would possibly gain even more if you weren't paying attention. I don't know- its worked for me, its sort of something I took away from WW in my 20s that stuck with me.

If I cut out all sugar and alcohol, ate clean at 1200-1400 calories, cardio and weights 4 times a week, do you think this is possible in six weeks?

Same stats. I will join you,OP. What is your plan?

OP here. Pretty much to eat anything with a label with anything I don't recognize, nothing processed, and stay between 1200-1400. Not whole30 exactly, because I need the yogurt for my digestive system. Basically, just drastically clean up my diet with whole foods, and cutting calories, which I should do anyway. I don't currently weight train, and want to start that. I am going to focus more on diet than exercise for weight loss, but incorporate more exercise for well being and health.

I'm thinking of the above, without counting calories. Clean eating is realistic for me longer term, but not 1200 calories. I'm hoping that 1500-1700 in whole foods with exercise will do it, given how bad my diet is now. Suit up!

I'm 44 at 5'6" and yes for me. I was sick at 130 after baby for long time. Just cutting sugar alone without exercise made a dramatic drop. I already keep fats on the l moderate side because of digestive issues. Cardio does nothing for me but a heavy duty pool workout using resistance training 3x well will drop me well below my goal weight. Water is a serious fat burner and with resistance I get serious muscles too.

At our age (I am about the same age)it is much harder to lose weight. I was not over 110lbs and at 5'4" until a few years ago.

How does fasting work? Do you threaten you metabolism?

I don't know if I threaten it. I think it is a myth that we can mess up our metabolism with our eating habits. I actually don't know what you mean. Sorry.
Fasting works for me, as I love food, and knowing that the next day I can eat just about anything I want makes me not hate it so much. So, on couple of days per week I fast, and then eat pretty much whatever I want. The result is that I am less hungry. I had a voracious appetite, just insane before. It is tough when you start, but after a couple of weeks, I find that I am not hungry that much at all. But, I am always cautious if I start to feel faint. That happened only in the beginning, not at all after those first few times.

yes, it's very possible. But to make the most impact in the smallest amount of time, there are only two things you need to eliminate--white sugar and white flour carbs. So not a single bite of any cake, cookie, bagel, muffin, bread, pasta, etc. and no sugar in your coffee, etc. and then just a general "fewer calories than normal" approach will get you there. Rice is fine. Hummus, fruit, fine. It's not all carbs that make you hold on to water weight. It's the white flour.
