Do you think an Exit Ban could actually happen?

Literally no one (besides your coworkers, OP) is talking about this.

Because we're the ones with the money.

We heard all this dismissal of our pre-election fears (project 25, etc) and almost all of it has happened. Why on earth wouldnt an exit ban?

They would never overturn Roe! It's settled law!

If they rake this country where it looks like they’re planning to take it, I’ll forfeit my assets and wealth as the price of my freedom to exit - just like Captain von Trapp did. I would rather live free on my own two feet than on my knees with all the money in the world.

Even Iran doesn’t have an exit ban, this is not something you need to worry about.

Despite how insane this all is, that feels far fetched to me, but I also have no proximity to the government/how things work, so who am I really to know. Curious as to what you may think.

Uh, no.

America can't handle the flow of people in or out of its borders. They're just too disorganized and sloppy right now. But that could change...

I heard the same howls about things like rescissions, troops on the streets, and curtailing of legitimate freedom of speech, yet here we are.

Well a year ago I wasn't worried about masked agents walking around assaulting and disappearing people without explanations...but here we are and so quickly.

What would be the signs of that? Would it be apparent to a relatively switched on person that it's time to go? Because plenty of people are saying it now, and I don't really see it as being that dire (even though I detest the adminitsration)

I agree. It's not dire now. When China was disappearing book sellers in Hong Kong and passing laws that cracked down on disagreeing with the government EVERYONE was talking about it - should they leave and when should they leave (they had a path to Britain). It's not like wistful talk that is happening now. So when it is dire, it will be all anyone talks about even if ultimately most people stay.
