YMMV but I’ve had the opposite experience: a big pharma sales rep (she had a lot of parties), lead software engineer with 15+ years of experience in IT, organization behavior consultant employed by an FFRDC, operations engineer at an FFRDC, and an IT director for a large federal contractor just to name a few. I know of one SAHM who was with an MLM.

This excludes people I remember from childhood who had Avon, Tupperware, MaryKaye, Hoda, Stanley Home Products or scented candles. Actually I didn’t know the reps. Only that my mom and grandma were invited to these parties.

Eh, it's more of an excuse to socialize and mingle. And in your case, a chance to brag and nsme drop about how important you are bc you're a(n) XYZ or work at 123.

PP — I think you’re right about they are opportunities for people to socialize. I get annoyed that DCUM characterizes all MLM reps as bored or desperate and obviously stupid (according to some DCUMers) SAHMs. MLMs also attract professional people who are trying to connect with others outside their careers more than the potential (illusion) of riches to be gained. — have been to 2 MLMs as an adult, never been an MLM consultant

No they don’t. They feel sorry for you and don’t want to ruin the friendship by telling you no.

Is that part of your script?

It’s missing a few exclamation points!!!

This post is so upsetting! We should be supporting one another instead of tearing our sisters down!

Not if it’s to get them out of a bad relationship!!!

Friends don’t let friends participate in MLMs.

Omg I need to get off this site. I recognize too many of the cast of characters like Sexless Marriage Guy and MLM "tearing our sisters down" Lady. My new favorite is Adult Trike Wife- she's a kook.

Never never never. Under any circumstances. And don't spam my social media with sales pitches for any home business, MLM or not. I may accept to avoid insulting you, but I will mute or otherwise ensure that I never have to look at this crap again.

And while we're at it, if you're a realtor, don't use the contact lists for your kids' daycare or elementary school to solicit for clients. I still get stuff from two women who were "class moms" for my kid's kindergarten class - he's now a senior. You never gave me or my kid the time of day when our kids were in the same class; I'm sure as hell not going to use you to buy or sell a house.

I would be fine going to an actual party. I went to a couple where the host food, it was a social event. But virtual, nope.

Hmmm. So few SAHMs these days and most of them in this area most of them are over educated, alpha types. Most of the SAHMs I know would rather get their nails surgically removed than host a MLM party.

Why is no one talking about the elephant in the room? Ummm, that little issue called COVID …. Really, who is hosting parties at all, let alone frivolous MLM knickknack parties during a pandemic? If we can’t travel to the Caribbean this holiday, or do many of the other holiday activities we used to enjoy, I sure ain’t avoiding seasonal fun to risk attending MLM parties.

Read the title of the thread. It’s a virtual party.

These MLMs are so harmful. They prey on desperate women as a quick scheme to make money. The best thing to do for a friend is to not go. Never buy any of it. It just feeds the corporate monster, not your #momboss friend.

I used to go to MLM parties all the time, and never buy anything. Then I just stopped getting invited. It’s actually sad because I did enjoy the free snacks and wine.

Sorry to break this to you, but most people I know are traveling all over. But Covid is a good excuse.

I say no thank you, I do not attend any MLM parties. Then I feel bad for the person because I thought they were smarter than that to get sucked into throwing one. I ignore the virtual invites.

The only reason I ever went to MLM parties was to snoop in people’s home and drink free booze. No way would I go to a virtual event!! MLM ladies— do your job and host in-person parties that are worth going to, or forget about selling anything!!!

I’m all about Pampered Chef parties, virtual or otherwise. My best kitchen implements come from there. And I’m a horrible cook.
