I just ignore but I'm kind about it - they are mostly poor SAHM trapped and desperate for $.
YMMV but I’ve had the opposite experience: a big pharma sales rep (she had a lot of parties), lead software engineer with 15+ years of experience in IT, organization behavior consultant employed by an FFRDC, operations engineer at an FFRDC, and an IT director for a large federal contractor just to name a few. I know of one SAHM who was with an MLM. This excludes people I remember from childhood who had Avon, Tupperware, MaryKaye, Hoda, Stanley Home Products or scented candles. Actually I didn’t know the reps. Only that my mom and grandma were invited to these parties.
Eh, it's more of an excuse to socialize and mingle. And in your case, a chance to brag and nsme drop about how important you are bc you're a(n) XYZ or work at 123.
PP — I think you’re right about they are opportunities for people to socialize. I get annoyed that DCUM characterizes all MLM reps as bored or desperate and obviously stupid (according to some DCUMers) SAHMs. MLMs also attract professional people who are trying to connect with others outside their careers more than the potential (illusion) of riches to be gained. — have been to 2 MLMs as an adult, never been an MLM consultant
