So now Conger and Bentz were just pulled off a flight that was about to leave Rio!
Oh damn this is getting good. WTF is going on! |
Pulled from the flight, detained and questioned, despite no reports of anything resembling a warrant being issued for them (according to some outlets, they never even made statements to the police about the incident, so couldn't even be charged with making a false statement). Not sketchy at all, the Brazilians seem totally credible and on the up-and-up here, nothing sketchy at all. |
| Maybe he thought he was really robbed by the corrupt police. So, why would he report it? He was cocky to one of the robbers- why wouldn't he be? He is rich, with his friends and an alpha male. Once he knows it's real he says whatever, take my money. He and his friends are rich and in the freaking Olympics- they will not be sobbing about the money that was just stolen. They would be joking about what a shitshow Rio is. |
| On the tv they said Lochte was initially worried that they had broken some rule, being out so late and drinking. But since they are over 21, no rules were broken. So at first he didn't want to talk about the incident. |
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Lochte is the least stupid of the group for getting the hell out of there. The others should have left sooner. Rio police are corrupt and after the five-year shitshow with the Sean Goldman custody case, there's no reason to trust Brazilian courts, either. |
| Perhaps the men lost their cash buying prostitutes and need a cover story |
| Isn't the fourth member of the group currently AWOL? |
There were lots of police waiting for him at the airport, and he was a no show. Someone waved him off. |
I hope he's ok. |
| I honestly can't believe Brazil would escalate this situation like this. Taking US Olympians off a plane and detaining them in the country seems like a fairly big diplomatic incident to me. Their story sounds pretty plausible to me. |
|
So if they just say they lied... What happens? Vs. If they continue with the story?
Are they too far in to turn around now? Would they be prosecuted for it if they say at this point that it's a lie? |
| I'm sure they knew that the judge was looking for them- it's certainly been all over the news today. So why did they try to leave, unless they are trying to cover up the real story? |
They already had tickets. Of course they would try to get back home. Who would expect to be detained at the airport, for being the victim of a robbery? Or even for telling a story? |
Because they don't want to be stuck in Brazil with their passports confiscated? I'd be trying to get out of there too! |
Would you want to trust in the Brazilian criminal justice system? True story or not, it makes perfect sense that those swimmers were trying to get on the first flight back to the US. |
